He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and was a member of the church choir. He was also a member of Loyal Order of the Moose No. 1472. Mr. Rigney was a devoted and loving husband, father, Paw-Paw and great Paw-Paw. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rigney was preceded in death by three brothers, Wallace Rigney, Sr., Jerry Rigney and James Rigney, and a sister, Rebecca Duncan. He is survived by his wife, Jean Steele Rigney; daughters, Donna Rigney Butterworth and husband, Curtis, of Hopewell, and Debra Rigney Drouin and husband, Francis, of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Brandon Payton Butterworth and wife, Jessica, of Hopewell, Brooke Ashley Butterworth of Wilmington, NC, and Melissa Lee Drouin of New Hampshire; great-grandchildren, Carter Reynoldson Butterworth and Grayson Davis Butterworth; sister, Joyce Rigney Whitt of Radford, VA; brothers, Hersel Rigney and wife, Margarete, of Michigan and Robert “Bobby” Rigney of Pulaski, VA; and two devoted caregivers, Terry Mitchell and Jessi Elkins. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 6th at the Hopewell Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Interment will follow at Bermuda Memorial Park. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace and Peace Ministries, C/O Curtis and Donna Butterworth, 3504 N. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Albert, Arthur, Audrey, Aaron and Astrage Lindsey, five sisters, Annie Rigney, Alma Murdock, Arbutus Yokes, Alice Morgan and Agnes Janse. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army Air Corp where he served as a military policeman. He was a member of the former Assemblies of God (Mt. Olivet Road), a member of Post #7 American Legion and a member of the VFW Post, #1184, Pulaski, Va. Surviving are: brother and sister-in-law, Allan Paris and Thelma G. Lindsey, Pulaski; special niece, Joyce Whitt, Radford; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski with the Minister Michael Foutz officiating. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin with full military honors conducted by the Pulaski VFW Post #1184, The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Bower Funeral Chapel, Pulaski. In lieu of flowers, thefamily asks that memorials in his honor be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauegard Street, Alexandria, Va. 22311. She was born July 1, 1927 in Pulaski County (Allisonia) and was the daughter of the late JIm S. and Mahala Henley Gregory. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 2 at 11:00 a.m. from the Newbern Community Christian Church with Minister Ernie Depew officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Thursday evening from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Flowers will be appreciated but for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to her memory to the Newbern Community Christian Church, 5382 Grace Street, Dublin, VA 24084.
