Edward Marcellus Tayloe was buried at Evergreen Burial Park, 1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, Virginia.1,3,4 He was born on July 8, 1924 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,2,3,4 He died on December 23, 1938 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 14.1,3,4 He A 14-year old boy was killed here yesterday afternoon. Marcellus Tayloe, the 14-year-old boy, met instant death when struck by west-bound passenger train No. 25 early yesterday afternoon on the Tinker Creek bridge in the East End yards. He was the son of Claude T. Tayloe, a Norfolk, and Western car inspector, Eighteenth street, S. E. The death of the Tayloe lad was attributed by City Coroner Charles M. Irvin to head, and other injuries. He said the boy was thrown about 165 feet. Members of the crew of the speeding passenger train did not know of the accident until after the train had reached the station. Meantime, police were notified of the accident and Patrolmen F. B. Moore and J. G. Harris, and Lieut. R. T. Riley and Sergt. H. E. Sower went to the scene and summoned Irvin. The lad had been playing on the bank of the creek with three companions, who were identified by railway officials as Randolph Baldwin, 14, and Junior Brock, 11. After hearing the railway shop whistle at 1 p. m., the boys decided to start to their homes, a short distance away, but when they reached the bridge, they saw an eastbound freight approaching. Tayloe started across the bridge, railway officials said, but his companions delayed when they heard the whistle of No. 25, and yelled for Tayloe. Apparently, it was said, the noise of the passing freight train drowned out their shouts. and a moment later the passenger train swept around a bend and was upon the youth. on December 24, 1938.6
