Terry, 84, of Terry Hollow Road, Ingleside, died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 at his residence. Born July 3, 1922 in Ingleside, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Maggie Faye Hudson Terry. He was a retired custodian with the Mercer County Board of Education retiring from Oakvale School in 1985. He was of the Protestant faith, a life-long resident of the Ingleside area, a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II, and the last surviving member of his immediate family. Joe was a master gardener taking pride in his ability to raise flowers and vegetables to sell at the Farmer's Market in Princeton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby "Margaret" Skeens Terry on Oct. 3, 1978; two sisters, Aileen Sprinkle and Martha Fitzwater; three brothers, Woodrow Terry, Charlie Terry and George "Phil" Terry; and a half brother, Mack Hudson. Survivors include three sons, Bobby Joe Terry, Jimmy Terry, and Bobby Wayne Terry all of Princeton; five daughters, Rita Terry of the home, Peggy Terry of Kentucky, Holly Roark of Princeton, Candy Terry of Oakvale and April Terry of Kentucky; 13 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007 at the G.E. Davis Chapel of Fredeking Funeral Service in Oakvale with Pastor Delmar Stilwell officiating. Burial will follow at the Brown Cemetery in Hardy with the WV National Guard Honor Team conducting military graveside rites. At Joe's request, his daughters will serve as pallbearers along with Mark Roark, Alvin Dale Shrewsbury, Jimmie Martin, James Roark, Carl Dickerson and Larry Rice. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today. on January 26, 2007.1

Death was attributed to natural causes. A lifelong resident of Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late William and Victoria Skeens. A member of the Holiness Church, she was employed by the Mercer County Board of Education at Oakvale School. Born May 16, 1952 in Richmond, Va., he was the son of the late George Helton and Virginia Barnett Helton. Ricky was a graduate of Princeton High School and a former construction supervisor for Compton Construction Company in Princeton. Ricky enjoyed reading, music, watching college football and was an avid NASCAR fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ronnie, Randy, Roger and Jerry Helton. Survivors: One daughter, Crystal Denise Helton of Charleston, S.C; two brothers, Johnny Helton of Bluefield, Danny Helton of Honaker, Va; several nieces and nephews. The family has honored Ricky's request, and his body has been cremated.
