He was a member and deacon of East End Baptist Church, Roanoke and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lively. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Christine Lively; one son, Randy C. Lively and wife Susan of Hardy; two grandchildren, Jessica and Travis Lively both of Hardy; two brothers, Tom Lively and wife Della of Beckley, W.Va., David Lively and wife Mary of Hampton, Va; one sister, Mary Allen of Wayside, W.Va. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakeys Vinton Chapel at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2007 with the Rev. Justin Likens and the Rev. Marvin Lloyd officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Monte Vista Park Cemetery, Princeton, W.Va. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakeys Vinton Chapel, 982-2221. on April 29, 2007.2

Opal was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area and a member of the Harrison United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Ralph Phillips. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bob Welder; daughter, Diana and her husband, Jeff Woods; son, Rob and his wife, Sue Welder; three granddaughters, Stephannie, Stacey and Jenny Welder; four brothers, S.M. "Buck", Sterling, Riley and David Phillips; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Ross officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery. on March 9, 2003.4
