A retired minister, Arnold served United Methodist Churches in West Virginia for over 40 years, including appointments to Frankford-Renick in Greenbrier County, Oceana, Mount Hope, Nitro, Moundsville, Montgomery, South Charleston, and Charleston. He loved nature and the out-of-doors and was involved in the United Methodist youth camping program at Spring Heights near Spencer. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, William P. Belcher and Nellie Belcher; a son, James Kirwan Belcher; one sister, Verna Ewing; and a brother, Bill Belcher. He is survived by his wife Helen of Dunbar; a sister, Melba Lowry of Ponce Inlet, Fla; sons, David V. of Tampa, Fla. and Alan R. of Charlotte, N.C; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2012, Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church. B. Light, of Marie, who died Monday July 13, 1936, in the La Co. General Hospital, at Los Angeles, Cal., of bronchial pneumonia, were brought here on No. 4 last Sunday morning. The remains were then removed to the Barnette Funeral Home and later to the New Hope church where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Dolan, of Talcott, at 11 a.m. The interment was in the cemetery nearby the church. Mr. Light was in the World War and had not been in this county since that memorable event. He was born and raised at Marie. Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Frank Michael, of Forest Hill. on July 22, 1936.⁵

Mr. Bailey was owner and operator of Bailey's Cash Store on Old Eccles Road for 34 years, was a lifelong resident of Old Eccles Road and a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church, where he served as deacon, elder and trustee, and was one of the caretakers of Oak Grove Cemetery. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willis O. and Kyle W. Bailey; and two sisters, Wilda Underwood and Sylvia Huffman. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Helen C. Vest Bailey; a son, Bernard R. and his wife, Brenda Bailey, of Beckley; a daughter, Mrs. Dennis (Phyllis A.) Taylor of Brunswick, Ohio; a sister, Eva Wiseman of Beckley; three grandchildren, Raymond Swaggerty, Sherry Bailey White and Melissa K. Bailey; and one great-granddaughter, Rachel Morgan White. Born Nov. 8, 1943, at Mabscott, he was the son of Helen Vest Bailey of Old Eccles Road, Beckley and the late Russell Burnace Bailey who died on March 21, 1993. Mr. Bailey spent his childhood in the Old Eccles Road area of Mabscott, was a 23 year employee of Wilcox Manufacturing and Fairchild International as a certified welder and was currently employed by the Raleigh County Board of Education as a custodian at Lester Elementary School. He was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church. Other survivors include his wife, Brenda Evans Bailey; two daughters, Mrs. Tim (Sheryl) White of Charleston and Melissa Bailey of Beckley; a granddaughter, Rachel White of Charleston and a sister, Mrs. Dennis (Phyllis) Taylor of Brunswick, Ohio. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Grove Christian Church, with Mr. Kenneth Overdorf and Mr. David Mullins officiating.
