Wilmer Doyel Harris was buried at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Pulaski Co., Virginia.3 He was born on February 12, 1923 at Willis, Floyd Co., Virginia.3,4,5,6 He married Annie Lee Wray on April 23, 1949.10,7 Wilmer Doyel Harris died on August 31, 2016 at Salisbury, Rowan Co., North Carolina, at age 93.3,4 He SALISBURY, N.C. — Wednesday afternoon, August 31st, Wilmer Harris finally saw the face of Jesus and got to be with his beloved Annie again! Born February 12, 1923, he had a full life, loved so very dearly by his daughters (Debbie and Bernice) and every single one of his grandchildren (Ann, Adam, Jakki and David), along with great-grandchildren who lived to an age to know him well (Lolo, Julian, Zak, Jessica and Lydia). However, since Annie went home in December 2013, his heart longed to be with her again. He spent the last two years of his life at Brookdale Assisted Living in Salisbury, NC....where he was loved and "fawned over" by both residents and staff alike as he told stories of his younger days, railroad days and time in the Navy.
From your daughters, Daddy: Thank you for the love and memories we have, the knowledge of where you are now and all that you have shared of your love of life and wisdom in living it well. You taught us so well how to treat others as we wanted to be treated, to never give up but to know there's always a way through any challenge, that love can be shown in so many different small ways, to love the things that God has made here, how to make something grow well in a garden, how to be patient and how to have a sense of humor about life. You did life well, and taught us how to do likewise! Thank you.
From your grandchildren: Thank you first of all for your abounding love and attention to EACH of us in a unique and special way. Thank you for teaching us to "respect our parents," for showing us how to build things and make traps, for teaching us how to swing on a grapevine in the woods, for your patience as we grew, and your pride in us as we got older, for listening to our hurting hearts as well as our celebrations, for your stories you told us and for all the wisdom you passed along. You set a grand example for us to follow. You were everything a Pepaw could possibly be and we all love you dearly.
From all of us: You were the anchor of our family....you were our hero!!!
Wilmer is survived by daughter Debbie Bowling in Bluefield, VA, grandson Adam Bowling in Dublin, VA, daughter Bernice Jacobe in Salisbury, NC, granddaughter Ann Leveille in Doylestown, PA and her husband Martin, their sons Julian, Zak and daughters Laurance (Lolo) and Lydia, granddaughter Jakki Coll in Cleveland, NC and her husband John and their daughter Jessica, and grandson David Jacobe, currently in Anchorage, AK. He was predeceased by his brothers Olen and Kemp Harris, and survived by his sister Dorothy in Virginia. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 6th, at Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield, West Virginia. A viewing will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., with a remembrance of his life at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Gary Lyons officiating. Interment will be on Wednesday, September 7th at 1:00 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the Dublin American Legion, Post #58. on September 3, 2016.4
