Upon retiring to Cross Lanes, she worked for several family practice doctors. Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 57 years, Arnold Schoolcraft Sr; sons and a daughter-in-law, James H. and Elda Schoolcraft of Alexandria, La., John Schoolcraft of Cross Lanes; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann Schoolcraft-King and Jim of Orlando, Fla. She is also survived by her sister, Emilee Denkins of Cross Lanes; two brothers and their wives, Cecil and Roberta Spence of Cross Lanes, Charles and Rosemary Spence of Nashville, Tenn. She was the loving grandmother to three grandsons, Joseph Schoolcraft of Alexandria, Michael and Jason Schoolcraft of Orlando, Fla. In addition, she was survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, Cross Lanes, with the Rev. Mayford Witt officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. on September 23, 2003.⁷

John Elmore, serving with the Army at Fort Meade, Md; Specialist 4 Fred Elmore, with the Army at Fort Knox, Ky., and Joe Thomas, at home; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ella Carter, Crab Orchard, and Mrs. Myrtle Elmore; Cranberry; 3 brothers, Chando, Cranberry; Pearlie Elmore, sheriff of Fayette County, Fayetteville, and Robert, Eau Gallie, Fla., and 18 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Chick O'Neal, Herman Powell, Paul Brizendine, Carl Ellis, Joe Suptic, Ray Elmore and L. L. Lilly. on May 8, 1961.⁷

Born Wednesday, November 11, 1903 in Botetourt County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Craft and Susan Niday Craft. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Raymond Forgie; a daughter, Alice F. Mundy; a grandson, Raymond D. Forgie, Jr; two granddaughters, Renee Heisler Moorman and Barbara Kaye Rowles; two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by four daughters, Nancy F. Rowles of Gladys, Mary F. Fisher of Murray, Utah, Ruby F. Cox and Iva F. Heisler, both of Chattanooga, Tenn; four sons, David W. Forgie of Richmond, James W. Forgie of Alexandria, Raymond D. "Buddy" Forgie of Thaxton, and Robert E. Forgie of Clifton Forge; three sisters, Estelle Hackworth of Roanoke, Bertha Holland and Eva Ward, both of Montvale; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 31, 1998 at 11 a.m. at Walnut Grove Union Church with the Rev. Michael Pope officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Union Church Cemetery.
