She grew up in Chelsea, Oklahoma, graduated high school in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska and earned her teaching credential from Chandron College in Chandron, Nebraska. She taught first grade in Oklahoma, Nebraska and South Dakota. She started out teaching in a one-room schoolhouse. Stella met her husband, Charlie Frogue, in Hot Springs, South Dakota where she was a first grade teacher and he was a chemistry and physics teacher. In 1936, they moved to California and had their only daughter, Charla Anne. After living six years in Houston, Texas they returned to San Pedro where Stella was a resident for 63 years. Stella was an excellent homemaker and a loving wife, mother and grandmother. A talented gardener, she once won first prize at the Geranium Festival. She was an avid reader and also wrote poetry. In her nineties she enjoyed traveling to Honolulu, HI to visit her daughter and son-in-law. She loved sports and was a devoted Laker and Dodger fan. She walked two miles daily with the Pt. Fermin walkers until her late nineties and continued to attend their social events until her death. She was a fifty-four-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of San Pedro. Stella was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Frogue; her mother, Sophia Tisdall Lane; her father, John Sylvester Lane; four sisters; four brothers; and her son-in-law, Bill Ludwig. Stella is survived by her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Charla and Mickey Martinez of Rancho Palos Verdes; and her beloved granddaughter, Lani Lane Ludwig of Los Angeles. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 731 S. Averill Ave., San Pedro, California. on November 11, 2009.3
