She is survived by a son and his wife, Randall and Tammy; grandsons, Chris and his wife, Jessica, and Chad; and great-grandsons, Gage and Hunter, all of Rock Hill; sisters, Betty Calhoun and Nancy Johnson; and brothers, Gary and Larry Jarrell, all of Cortland, Ohio. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Elk Hills Memorial Park Chapel, Big Chimney, with Pastor Lee Turley officiating. Burial will follow in the memorial park. At Carol's request, there will be no visitation. Arrangements are in the care of Elk Funeral Home, 2001 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston. on July 8, 2010.1

Lewis of Rock Hill, S.C; grandsons, Chris and Chad; great-grandson, Gage; sisters, Dorothy Ramsey and Norma Turley, both of Charleston, Linda Cochran of Marmet and Faye Bowles of Nitro; and a brother, Rex Lewis of Charleston. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at Elk Funeral Home, 2001 Pennsylvania Ave., Charleston, with Pastor Lee Turley officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are in the care of Elk Funeral Home, Charleston. on October 3, 2008.3

He is survived by his wife Carman Stephens Manning of Armuchee; 2 daughters – Tina Hiles and her husband Tommy of Kingston; Tanya Barfield and her husband Danny of Armuchee; 4 grandchildren – Brent Moore and his wife Stephanie of Armuchee; Teellia Adams and her husband Josh of Lindale; Tom Hiles of Kingston and Katie Barfield of Armuchee; and 1 great-grandson, Stephen Kenneth, whom he affectionately called S. Ken. MSG. Manning is also preceded in death by his former wife Phyllis Jarrett Manning and daughter Pamela Denise. MSG. Manning is a 20 year veteran of the United States Army having retired from the Headquarters of the US Army Armament Command at Rock Island Arsenal at the rank of Master Sergeant (E8). He served in numerous capacities in his career including 3 tours in Vietnam, having served 1 tour with the 1st BTLN 8th Inf. Reg. 4th Infantry Division at Dak To, 1 tour with USMACV USARPAC, and 1 tour with Co. A 1st BTLN 20th Infantry (AMERICAL). MSG. Manning also served as Drill Instructor and Sr. Drill Instructor at Fort Gordon, Fort Jackson, Fort Benning and assisted in the organization and development of the AIT School at Fort McClellan to which he also served as a Section Chief. During his career, Mr. Manning received numerous medals, recognitions and citations including the National Defense Service Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Purple Heart; Bronze Star with Valor device, 3rd award; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm; Vietnam Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal, 5th Award; and the Army Commendation Medal. Mr. Manning is a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed being with his family, fishing, watching NASCAR and being outdoors. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends at Easy Living Yamaha in his retirement years. Mr. Manning was an accomplished pilot and an accomplished finish and trim carpenter who enjoyed building cabinets and wood working. Mr. Manning was a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church. Visitation will be Friday, April 1 at Parnick Jennings, Sr.’s Good Shepherd Funeral Home from 1200-200 with graveside services at 2:30 at East View Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Manning officiating. The following gentlemen are asked to serve as pallbearers; Alvin Collins, Brent Moore, Danny Barfield, John Cummings, Rick Stephens, Tommy Hiles and Tom Hiles, and are asked to meet at Parnick Jennnings, Sr.’s Good Sheperd Funeral Home, at 2:00 p.m. Friday.2 He married Phyllis I. Betty Mae Jarrell CORTLAND - Betty M. Calhoun, 75, of Cortland died early Sunday morning, March 20, 2011, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Betty was born May 9, 1935, in Dorothy, W.Va., to the late Harley and Pauline White Jarrell. She was a graduate of Clearfork High School. Betty was a member of the Morgandale Church of the Nazarene. She retired from Kmart after several years working as a stock clerk. Betty is survived by a daughter, Patricia (Allan) Brooks of Andover; three sons, Scott Jr. of Cortland, Daniel (Mary Jo) of Warren and Jeffrey of Cortland; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Nancy Johnson of Cortland; and two brothers, Gary and Larry Jarrell, both of Cortland.
