William Chatham Sr. William Chatham had in his possession a mahogany fife that was brought from Ireland in 1769 by Col. John Chatham. It was used during the entire revolution, and also the war of 1812. Patrick McElhaney, on going to the war, borrowed this file to take into the service; he returned it in good condition in 1815.1 He left a will; William Chatham, Bald Eagle Township: to son James his Bible, Testament & chest of tools; to Robert Chatham, son of James $150; to William Chatham, son of Walter Chatham $150; to Hugh Devling $100; to William Chatham in Ireland $200 if he calls for it in two years, if not to go to sons James & Walter, equally; to son Walter watch, chest & coverlid; to Elizabeth Chatham, dau. of James, bed, bedstead & bedding; to Robert Devling my fiddle; to Roger Devling $1; names Execs.: Andrew Irwin. 10 Oct 1826. Witnesses: Joseph Hanna, Joseph Hunt.
