Thom was born May 19, 1956, to James A. and Yvonne V. "Bonnie" Linehan. His father worked as a die maker for Pontiac Motors, and his mother was a court reporter and office manager for the State of Michigan. Thom was on the football and cross country teams at Royal Oak Kimball High School where he graduated in 1974. He then continued his studies at Lawrence Institute of Technology and Wayne State University, earning a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1986 and an MBA in Marketing in 1989. He was a certified Professional Engineer and a member of Eta Kappa Nu and the Society of Plastics Engineers. Thom had a long-time career as Electrical Engineering Director at DME Company, where he was awarded multiple patents for the development of innovative temperature control processes. As a recognized specialist within the injection molding industry, Thom sat on the Board for the Ferris State University Plastics Program. He also received numerous awards for technical papers he wrote and presented at conferences worldwide. Thom's sharp intellect and technological aptitude were balanced by a unique sense of wit, and a passion for music, travel, dirt biking, cats, and pyrotechnics (though generally not all at the same time). Thom is survived by his wife Anna; his children, Nathan and Mallory and their mother Laurie Rosso (Linehan) of Clarkston; his mother Yvonne "Bonnie" (Tabor) of Utica; and his brothers Ross of Ypsilanti and Timothy of Glastonbury, Conn. A memorial service will be held at Lee-Ellena Funeral Home, 46530 Romeo Plank, Macomb Twp. on Sunday, October 23 at 3 p.m., with visitation beginning at 12. Luther Marks and the Rev. Arthur Shields officiating Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pickett died yesterday morning in the Blueiield Sanitarium following a long illness. He was the son of the late Lena Cole and Rodnick Pickett of Duhring. He was a member of the Bramwell Masonic Lodge No. 45, and Bramwell Chapter No. 15. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Helen Gilmore; one daughter, Mrs. Lena Thompson; two sons, R. B. (Pat) of Keystone and Joe of Baltimore, Md; one sister, Mrs. Nellie Surface of Duhring; two brothers, T. R. Pickett of Route One, Bluefield and Joe Pickett of Beckley; and eight grandchildren. Mr. Pickett was born on April 25, 1914 in Jenkins, Ky. to the late Andrew Pickett and Helen Gilmore Pickett. Mr. Pickett retired as a mine foreman after 45 years of service with the Eastern Gas and Fuel Company and served as pastor for the past 50 years, without compensation, at the Duhring Church of Christ in Duhring. He was a resident of Mercer County for most of his life, and he was a member of the Bluewell Public Service District as a commissioner. Mr. Pickett's main passions in life were preaching and teaching the word of God and his loving family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Aileen Alice Johnson Pickett and two brothers, Alcot Pickett and Joe Pickett. Survivors include one daughter, Myra Hedrick of Bluefield; two grandchildren, Rodrick Hedrick and wife Cindy of Shady Springs, and Donna Ray and David of Wichita, Kan; four great-grandchildren, Sarah, Tim, Austin and Adam; one sister, Lana Thompson and husband Jim of Sanston, Va; special caregiver, Margaret Nelson of Duhring. Funeral services will be held at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell on Monday, May 15, 2006 at 8 p.m. with the Minister Frank Watkins Jr. and Minister Rod Hedrick officiating. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Bluewell. Those attending the graveside rites are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday. Friends and family may call at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell on Monday, May 15, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m.
