She was born September 14th, 1926 in Princeton, WV. She was the daughter of the late Guy Melvin and Lillian Chambers Hollandsworth of Welch, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, James W. "Jack" King, brother James Hollandsworth of Huntington, WV and wife Marjie, brother Bill Hollandsworth and wife Janice of St. Louis, MO, sister Anna Sue and husband Gene Powers of Homewood, IL, sister Fay and husband Fred Brown of Homewood, IL, brother Luther and wife Mary Hollandsworth of Durham, NC. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth Trogdon and husband Bob of Eden, NC, son John King and wife Jeanie of Princeton, WV, daughter Jan Wilkerson and husband Bob of Princeton, WV, daughter Patty Moore and husband Gary of Wichita, KS, daughter Kathryn Elliott and husband Jimmy of Fuquay Varina, NC, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and nieces & nephews. Mrs. King was raised in Welch, WV where she graduated from Welch High School. She received a Master's degree in home economics from Marshall University. She retired from the West Virginia State Department of Education in School Food Service. he was a member of Johnston Chapel Baptist Church on Halls Ridge Road in Princeton, WV for 54 years where she served in the adult choir and music ministry and was a member of the DMA "Don't Mention Age" Senior Citizen's Fellowship of Johnston Chapel. A service of celebration of her life will be held on Friday, May 8th at 11:00 AM at Johnston Chapel Baptist Church on Halls Ridge Road in Princeton, WV with her son, Pastor John King, son-in-law Pastor Bob Trogdon and son-in-law Pastor Jimmy Elliott officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Matt Elliott and Andrew Moore, grandsons-in-law Matthew Miller, B. J. Erps and Jon Martin, sons-in-law Bob Wilkerson and Gary Moore and great-grandson Daniel Miller. She was born in Bluefield, WV, daughter of the late James Willis King and the late Christel Otha Thornton King. She grew up in Ingleside, WV, and Princeton, WV, graduating as salutatorian of her class from Princeton High School in 1941. She graduated from Concord College in Athens, WV, in 1944. Mrs. Hollandsworth started teaching high school at age 19, beginning a career in education with a focus mainly on chemistry and mathematics. After World War II she moved with her husband to North Carolina, where she spent most of her adult years in Winston-Salem, Lumberton, Chapel Hill, and Durham. As children arrived she became a devoted mother, and later a loving grandmother to six grandchildren. She enjoyed the fellowship of her bridge club, singing in the Epworth United Methodist Church choir, interacting with the Epworth book club, and reading everything she could. She had a quick wit, inquisitive nature, and gentle spirit that touched everyone who knew her. Mrs. Hollandsworth was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Luther Clarence Hollandsworth. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Barbara Hollandsworth Smith and son-in-law Steve Ridings of Durham, NC; son David Hollandsworth and daughter-in-law Cindy Hollandsworth of Raleigh, NC; daughter Nancy McGivney and son-in-law Rich McGivney of Durham, NC; daughter Sharon Hollandsworth of Durham, NC; and grandchildren Cameron Smith and Marin Smith of Greensboro, NC; Richie McGivney of Wilmington, NC; Mary Grace McGivney of New York, NY; Joshua Hollandsworth and Heather Hollandsworth of Raleigh, NC. on September 21, 2014.2

Dr. Luther Clarence Hollandsworth DURHAM - Dr. Luther Clarence Hollandsworth, of 8 Herrick Place, Durham, NC, died December 6, 1999. Born the son of Guy and Lillian Chambers Hollandsworth on August 28, 1923 in Konnarock, VA, he grew up in Welch, WV and graduated from Welch High School in 1941. Dr. Hollandsworth attended Berea College in Berea, KY before joining the Army Air Force in 1942. As a gunner on a B-29 bomber based in Guam, he flew 22 missions over Japan during WWII and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross before his discharge in 1945. He returned from the war to take pre-med classes at the University of Virginia, and went on to receive his MD from Bowman Gray Medical School in Winston-Salem, NC in 1951. After a 4 year general practice in Oldtown near Winston-Salem, he proceeded to a specialty in anesthesiology, serving his residency at Duke Hospital from 1956-1958. He worked as an anesthesiologist in a surgical private practice in Lumberton, NC, from 1958-1963; and he was a member of the faculty at the UNC Hospital System from 1963-1968; and he worked at the Durham Veterans Administration Medical Center from 1968 until his retirement in 1984. Dr. Hollandsworth was a past president of the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists and a retired member of the American Board of Anesthesiology and American Medical Association. His retirement years were filled with gardening and nannying grandchildren. Dr. Hollandsworth was married on April 19, 1946, to the former Mary Ruth King of Princeton, WV, who survives him. He is also survived by brothers James "Pop" Hollandsworth of Huntington, WV and William J. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where he was involved in Methodist Men, the choir and handbells, former Sunday School Superintendent, and also served on many church committees. Survivors include his wife, Glenna "Lake" Martin Womick of the home; a son, Robert Womick, Jr. and wife Carol of Forest City; daughters, Sharon Graham and husband Mickey of Ellenboro, Sandra Dale and husband Tom of Bermuda, and Toni Gamble and husband John of Cary, NC; a sister, Frances Cobb of Forest City; grandchildren, John Gamble, Jr., Lisa Gamble, Skip Steffey, Rich Steffey, Ryan Steffey, Chip Graham, Tracy Miller, Lori Carpenter, and Quinn Womick and eight great grandchildren.
