He married Rebecca Hildebrand on May 1, 1948 in Bremerhaven, Germany, where they both were serving in the military. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca on June 20, 2006. He retired from Fiat-Allis after 32 years. Arthur was a Master Gardener, and enjoyed traveling, reading, playing piano, singing in choir, and his family. Arthur was a member and past Post Commander for the Athens VFW, a member of the DAV, a Athens school board member, and an editor for the Reporter for Missouri Synod, and was a church a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on September of 1945 and served until July of 1948. He attained rank of Sargent during World War II. Arthur attended a Honor Flight on June of 2011. Arthur attended Concordia Seminary in Springfield. Burial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield with military rites being accorded. on February 2, 2012.2
