William Payne Shiflett died on July 10, 2017 at Radford, Virginia, at age 91.2 He William Payne Shiflett, Nov 28, 1925 - Jul 10, 2017. Reverend William Payne Shiflett, 91, of Radford, passed away Monday, July 10, 2017. Private interment will be held in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin at a later date. Rev. Shiflett is survived by his wife of 73 years, Margarette Weeks Shiflett; and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Sue and John D. Lowman Sr. Rev. Shiflett is also survived by his loving granddaughter, Christi Altizer (Kevin Conner); special grandson, John D. Lowman Jr. (Beth) and grandson, B. David Altizer, who he held close in his heart. "PawPaw" Shiflett is also survived by three great-grandchildren who he always looked forward to spending time with, Cameron and Isaac Altizer and Elizabeth Ann Lowman. William (Billy) Shiflett was predeceased by his parents Rev. Charles and Minnie Viands Shiflett; and 11 siblings. He is survived by a brother Henry Shiflett of Martinsville. William (Bill) Shiflett was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. Prior to military service during the polio epidemic 1943-1944, Bill was among a hand full of men that were unafraid to drive an ambulance to transport polio patients to follow-up care facilities. He did this willingly and lovingly without pay or accolade, his joy was for the Lord. Reverend Shiflett was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Bible College and pastored churches in both North Carolina and Virginia. A special thank you to Bill's caregiver, Peggy Waddell, who provided him with excellent personal care for the past five years. on July 28, 2017.2

John David Lowman, Sr., 73, of Fairlawn, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and retired Facilities Operations Specialist for the Department of the Army. He was a U.S. Army veteran with 29 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Dorothy Lowman; and his father-in-law, Rev. William Payne Shiflett. Survivors include his wife, Sue S. Lowman; and son, John Lowman, Jr. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.5 He was born on February 26, 1945 at Pulaski Co., Virginia.2,4,6,5,7 He married Sandra Sue Shiflett, daughter of Rev. Other than short stints in Radford, Salem and Roanoke during World War II, Aldene lived her entire life in Floyd and Roanoke counties. She was a wife, mother, homemaker, partner in Reed Orchard and a hard worker at all things needing to be done. Aldene was a kind and considerate person, always putting others before herself. She excelled at cooking large meals for her family of farm workers/big eaters and always had plenty for whoever might show up at meal time. But above all else, Aldene was a believer in her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and a faithful worker for His Church. She was a member of Lawrence Memorial Methodist Church since the dedication of its present building in 1948, and Stonewall Methodist/Brethren Church, which was near her home place before that. Aldene was awarded numerous awards by The Methodist Home in Roanoke, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Chapel Rutrough and Bertha Alma Whitenack Rutrough; brothers, Wilton Howard, Oscar Mitchell and Lewis Gwinn; sisters, Helen Burton and husband, Maurice Atkinson, June Mildred and husband, Julian Mowles, Virginia Louise and husband, Buren Reese Jr. Aldene is survived by her children, Richard A. Reed and wife, Mary Elouise, Larry W. Reed and wife, Betty, Glenn L. Reed and wife, Llena, and Robin F. Reed Poff and husband, Reggie; sister, Marjorie Ann Evans; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Greg Fleshman officiating. A private interment will take place at Evergreen Burial Park. on February 12, 2019.3
