On Feb. 21, 1923, she married Onno Valentine in Pauline. They farmed. They also operated a custom combining crew for 25 years. They moved to Grand Island where they ran the Valentine Motel. Her husband died in 1990. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and Daughters of the Nile. Survivors are two daughters, Betty June Whipple of Grand Island and Lovona Murphy of Hastings; one brother, Floyd Brown of Lincoln; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers and two grandchildren. Memorials may be given to Shriners Crippled Children Transportation Fund. on July 3, 1996.6

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Whipple; three sons, Kenny and Denny Berding and Ted Whipple; and sister, Wanda Valentine. on August 2, 2018.2

She was active in Delta Theta Tau sorority and was a member of many professional education associations. She was a passionate Lawrence North and Indiana University sports fan. She especially enjoyed traveling and sharing time with friends.She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church at 7700 North Meridian Street in Indianapolis where memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday. Calling will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday in the church's parlor. Donations in Phyllis's honor may be made to the . Indiana Funeral Care, in Indianapolis assisted with the services. on July 9, 2009.1
