A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Tabor Lutheran Church in Kane. Rev. Nancy M. Curtis, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Moriah Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. Apparently believing that a .22 calibre target pistol was empty, the victum stuck the barrel in his mouth and pulled the trigger Saturday night. The experiment prove lethal to David E. Walton, 25, of 703 Janeway St., Kane. Police said that Mr. Walton was riding with several companions on a forest service road in Wetmore Township when the group stopped to change a tire. They began target shooting at empty beer cans and then the fatal incident took place. The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival at Summit hospital. Corner Gale Hollenbeck of Bradford said he issued a certificate of accidental death. Mr. Walton was born at Ludlow on Dec. 14, 1940, a son of the late George and Rose Hulings Walton. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 and since his discharge he was employed by the Kane Manufacturing Company as a welder. He attended the Church of the Nazarene in Kane. Mr. Walton is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Brinkley Walton; a daughter, Suzanne Brinkley and son John David Walton; three sisters, Mrs. Genevieve MacIntosh of Russell, Mrs. Dolores Fuller of James City, and Miss Maxine Walton of Kane; and two brothers, James Walton of Kane and Russell Walton of Livingstone Manor, N.Y. Funeral services were held at a local funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Donald Holsinger of the Church of the Nazarene. on June 16, 1966.5

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Zerbe of near Lucinda; three children, Debra, James and Cynthia; three sisters, Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Kapp of Kossuth, Mrs. J. B. (Bernice) Knight of Knox RD 1 and Mrs. William (Charlotte) Bladish of Texas; four brothers, Howard of Foxburg, William of Shippenville, and Robert and Dennis of Knox RD. Mrs. Lois Eileen Kline Zerbe died on her 27th birthday at 9:35 p.m. Tuesday in Clarion Hospital. She was born in Venus June 2, 1932, a daughter of Charles W. and Bernice Bigley Kline. She too, was a member of the Venus EUB Church. She was graduated from Shippenville High School in 1950 and before her marriage worked in the Oil City area. Surviving are the three children, Debra, James and Cynthia, along with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kline of Venus; a sister, Mrs. Velma McCauley of Venus, and two brothers, Wade and Harold Kline, of Venus. Richard Allen Zerbe was born in Oil City Hospital Dec. 20, 1956. He is survived by his two sisters, his brother and his maternal and paternal grandparents. on June 4, 1959.5

     LaWanda Martha Zerbe LaWanda M. Shaffer, 91, of St Petersburg, FL passed away August 12, 2018 at Bon Secours Maria Manor Nursing Facility. She was born on January 3, 1927 in Pennsylvania to parents, Leona (Schattenberg) and Floyd Zerbe. She attended Hamot School of Nursing in Erie, PA and graduated in 1947, having earned her Nursing diploma. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Hamot Hospital for 35 years until her retirement. Her nursing career and her family were her greatest accomplishments. Lawanda is survived and will be dearly missed by her children, Brenda Shaffer (Lynda), Tim Shaffer (Dana), and Scott Shaffer; grandchildren, Mitch, Morgan, Rachel, and Kyle; as well as many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Donald Shaffer; sister, Bonnie Zerbe, and brother, Chuck Zerbe. Services will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Cemetery in Cranberry, PA at a later date to be announced. Donations can be made in LaWanda’s honor to the Red Cross or Easter Seals. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Bon Secours for their exceptional and professional care and kindness.4 She was buried at Sunset Hill Memorial Park, Route 322, Cranberry Township, Venango Co., Pennsylvania.4 She was born on January 3, 1927 at Pennsylvania.2,6,4 As of circa 1950,her married name was Shaffer.3 She married Donald Derl Shaffer circa 1950.1,3,4 LaWanda Martha Zerbe died on August 12, 2018 at St. Petersburg, Pinellas Co., Florida, at age 91.4

Cornish on April 6, 1946 at Corry, Erie Co., Pennsylvania.7,6 Floyd Charles Zerbe Jr. died on April 5, 1976 at Greensburg, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania, at age 53.7,6 He CORRY - Floyd C. Zerbe Jr., of New Stanton RD 1 died Tuesday at Westmoreland Hospital in Greensburg. Born February 15, 1923 at Watson Farm, he graduated from Kane High School in 1940 and moved to Corry where he was employed by the Aero Supply Manufacturing Co. In 1944, Mr. Zerbe Joined the B&O Railroad at Galeton where he worked as a carpenter. He worked as a carpenter-foreman at Foxburg, and was later transferred to Salamanca, N.Y. as a master carpenter. He was named supervisor of B&O building and bridge construction in the railroad's Connellsvllle office and was later promoted to regional construction supervisor of the Northern division of the C&O and B&O railroads in the Pittsburgh office. Mr. Zerbe retired due to ill health in January, 1973. He was a member of the Bear Lake United Methodist Church, the F&AM Lodge in St. Petersburg and the Coudersport Conslstory. He is survived by his wife, the former Dorema Cornish, whom he married April 6, 1946. Other survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Terry (Linda) Martin of Greensburg, Miss., Sandra Zerbe of Kingston, N.Y., Charlene Zerbe of Bear Lake and Rita Zerbe at home; one son, Rex L. Zerbe, at home; and two sisters, Miss Bonita Zerbe and Mrs. Donald (LaWanda) Shaffer, both of Erie. Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home in Corry from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, with Rev. Howard Markel of the Clareton United Methodist Church and Rev. Dale DuPont of the Bear Lake United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Bear Lake Cemetery. on April 7, 1976.6

Cornish died on December 2, 2008 at Erie, Erie Co., Pennsylvania, at age 85.1,2 She Dorema L. Zerbe, 85, of Bear Lake, Pa., died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Dorema was born March 3, 1923, in Bear Lake, Pa., daughter of the late Enoch B. Sr. and Elloine Root Cornish. She was raised in Bear Lake and graduated from Lottsville High School in 1941. Following graduation, she worked for General Electric and after her marriage, she stayed home to raise and care for her family. For many years, Mrs. Zerbe lived in Western Pennsylvania and Southern New York. She returned to the Cornish homestead on Bear Lake in the mid 1980s. She served as secretary and treasurer for the Bear Lake Cemetery for several years. Dorema had a love for her family, horses, animals and nature. She enjoyed baking and tending her yard on her John Deere tractor. She had especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Floyd C. Zerbe Jr. on April 5, 1976. They were married April 6, 1946, in Corry, Pa. She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Susan Webster and Lora Eschenbach; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Zerbe; and three brothers: Daniel, Alfonso and Enoch Cornish. Dorema is survived by four daughters: Linda Martin and her husband, Terry of Greensburg, Pa., Sandy Zerbe of Glenford, N.Y., Charlene Zerbe of Bear Lake and Rita Corbin and her husband, Dan of Chautauqua, N.Y; a son, Rex Zerbe of New Stanton, Pa; a sister, Geraldine Johnston and her husband, Robert of Panama, N.Y. and a sister-in-law, Wanda Shaffer and her husband, Don of Largo, Fla; six grandchildren: Nathan Martin, Skylar, Dane and Lexis Corbin and Blake and Grant Zerbe; and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was known as mother and grandmother to many. Friends may call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center St., Corry on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and may attend a celebration of her life there on Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Bear Lake Cemetery.
