     Ella Catherine "Cassie" Jones was buried at Toronto Union Cemetery, Toronto, Jefferson Co., Ohio.³ She was born on June 2, 1888 at Floyd Co., Virginia.^1,3 As of December 28, 1904,her married name was White.⁴ She married Samuel Frederick "Sam" White on December 28, 1904 at Tazewell Co., Virginia.⁴ As of December 15, 1948,her married name was Briggs.² Ella Catherine "Cassie" Jones married Charles Briggs on December 15, 1948 at Jefferson Co., Ohio.^3,2 Ella Catherine "Cassie" Jones died on February 22, 1960 at Old Washington, Guernsey Co., Ohio, at age 71.³ She Mrs. Catherine Briggs, 71, a former resident of Toronto, died Monday at 9 a.m. in her home in Old Washington, Ohio. She had been in failing health for the past 12 years. She was born June 2, 1888, in Whitten Mills, W. Va., a daughter of the late George and Martha Jones. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She leaves her husband, Charles Briggs; one daughter, Mrs. Sadie Putnam of Empire; two sisters, Mrs. N.E. Turley of Steubenville, and Mrs. E.D. Turley of Bluefield, W.Va; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, two sisters, and two brothers. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Toronto after 2 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. The Rev. Mr. William Mautz will officiate. Burial will be in Toronto Union Cemetery. on February 23, 1960.³

     Samuel Frederick "Sam" White was buried at Osage Cemetery, Toronto, Jefferson Co., Ohio.⁴ He was born on April 20, 1883 at Virginia; His draft card has a birth year of 1884.^2,3 He married Ella Catherine "Cassie" Jones, daughter of George William Jones and Martha J. Poff, on December 28, 1904 at Tazewell Co., Virginia.⁵ Samuel Frederick "Sam" White died on August 5, 1960 at Guernsey Co., Ohio, at age 77.^3,6 He Samuel F. White, 77, a coal miner, formerly of Steubenville, died at 11 p.m. Friday after an illness of one year. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Putnam of Empire; three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons and two grandchildren. He was born April 20, 1883, in Virginia, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arch White. Friends may call at the Clarke Funeral Home in Toronto after 7 tonight. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. The Rev. Mr. William Mautz will officiate. Burial will be in the Toronto Union Cemetery.      George Arch White was buried at Toronto Union Cemetery, Toronto, Jefferson Co., Ohio.³ He married Johnsie Mae Patrick.³ George Arch White was born on June 24, 1907 at Tazewell, Tazewell Co., Virginia.^3,5 He died on September 19, 1937 at Short Creek, Ohio Co., West Virginia, at age 30.^3,5 He Weekend Toll of Autos - Toronto Youth Fatally Injured as Car Upsets at Zalia, W.Va. - Steubenville Man Killed in Head-On Collision North of Wheeling - A Steubenville man and a Toronto youth were killed and six other persons injured, two seriously, in two automobile accidents on West Virginia highways Sunday. Killed were: George White, 30, of 612 Ross street, Steubenville. Fractured skull. James Risher, 19, of 1313 North River avenue, Toronto. Fractured skull. Injured were: George Sayres, 31, of 612 Ross street, Steubenville. Shattered glass forced into head. Lacerations. Condition serious. Marie Padden, 45, of 612 Ross street, Steubenville. Skull Fractured. Both knee caps fractured. Condition serious. Phyllis Green, 18, of 4401 Huron avenue, Sandusky. Bruises and lacerations. Condition good. Elizabeth Shannon, 40, of 4401 Huron avenue, Sandusky. Body lacerations. Condition good. George E. Dittmore, 33, of 2420 Jacob street, Wheeling. Bruises and minor cuts. Discharged. Louella Coss, 29, of Cadiz pike. Minor cuts. Discharged. White was almost instantly killed in a head-on auto crash on the River road south of Short Creek, Ohio county, W. Va. The accident sent six persons to the Wheeling hospital. The mishap occurred at 1:30 a.m., Sunday. . . . White and the four other persons in the hospital had attended a theatrical performance in Wheeling and were returning to Steubenville when the crash occurred. They were traveling north on the River road while Dittmore, accompanied by Miss Coss, was driving south. The accident took place on the street car crossing, just below Short Creek. State police reported that White was apparently driving to the left of the center of the road and crashed into the Dittmore car in rounding the slight curve. The injured were rushed to the Wheeling hospital by passing motorists. An immediate investigation into the mishap was started by state police . . . George White was born June 24, 1907, in Virginia. He was a produce huckster. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mae White and one son, Raymond. Funeral services for White will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the home of his sister, Mrs. Orland David of 1919 Euclid avenue, Toronto. Burial will be made in Toronto Union cemetery. Rev. Daniel Eynon will officiate. Other survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel White and one brother, Floyd, of Steubenville. on September 20, 1937.³

     Samuel Walter Floyd White was buried at Toronto Union Cemetery, Toronto, Jefferson Co., Ohio.² He was born on January 12, 1910 at Tazewell, Tazewell Co., Virginia.¹ He died on November 2, 1940 at Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio, at age 30.^2,7 He Walter Floyd White, 30, 321 North Third street, a produce dealer, died at 10:42 p.m., Saturday in the Ohio Valley hospital. Mr. White's body was removed to the home of his sister, Mrs. Orlando Davis, 919 Euclid avenue, Toronto. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday from her home. Burial will be made in Toronto Union cemetery. on November 4, 1940.²

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Toronto, and the American Association of Retired Persons. Surviving are her husband, Clyde Putnam, whom she married June 23, 1958; three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Marian) Fowler of Empire, Mrs. Richard (Linda Kay) Rush of Costonia, and Mrs. Paul (Janet) Spooner of Lakeland, Fla; two stepsons, Thomas Putnam of Barstow, Calif., and Clyde "Eddie" Putnam of Whittier, Calif; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Maxwell of Columbus, Mrs. James (Donna) Olsen of Reading, Pa., and Mrs. Richard (Wanda) Koski of Toronto; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was born Aug. 10, 1914, in Rock, W.Va., a daughter of the late Sam White and Katherine Jones White Briggs. She was preceded in death by two brothers.      Orland Francis Davis was buried at Toronto Union Cemetery, Toronto, Jefferson Co., Ohio.¹ He married Sadie Annie Mae White, daughter of Samuel Frederick "Sam" White and Ella Catherine "Cassie" Jones.³ Orland Francis Davis was born on September 14, 1905 at Stratton, Jefferson Co., Ohio.² He died on April 25, 1973 at Steubenville, Jefferson Co., Ohio, at age 67.^1,4 He Orland (Doc) Davis, 67, of RD 1, Island Creek, was dead on arrival at Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville at 3:28 a.m. today. He was a retired employe of the blast furnace department on Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Mr. Davis was a member of the River Avenue Church of Christ. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Marion) Fowler of Empire, Mrs. Richard (Linda) Rush of RD 1, Toronto, and Mrs. Richard (Janet) McEwen of Toronto; 13 grandchildren; a sisters, Mrs. Paul (Violet) Kunzler of Toronto, and two brothers, Harold Davis of Toronto, and Donald Davis of Knoxville.      Clyde Monroe Putnam was born on August 16, 1918 at Mavis, Braxton Co., West Virginia.^2,1 He married Sadie Annie Mae White, daughter of Samuel Frederick "Sam" White and Ella Catherine "Cassie" Jones, on June 23, 1958.^3,1,2 Clyde Monroe Putnam died on December 28, 2004 at Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania, at age 86.^1,2 He Clyde Monroe Putnam, 86, of New Castle, Pa., a former resident of Toronto and Columbiana, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at the Southwestern Veterans Medical Center in Pittsburgh. Clyde was born Aug. 16, 1918, in Mavis (Braxton County), W.Va., son of the late John Monroe and Lucy Ellen Dunlap Putnam. He is a member of the First Christian Church of Columbiana, Ohio. His other memberships include, Triangle Senior Citizens of Calcutta, Ohio and the Weirton Steel 25-Year Club. Clyde is a veteran of the U.S. Army during W.W. II having served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He is retired from National Steel Corporation, Weirton Steel Division. Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sadie M. White Putnam, who passed away in 1990 and whom he married June 23, 1958; step-daughter, Marion Fowler; eight brothers; and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Cameron Putnam of the home, whom he married July 30, 1991. Mr. Putnam's five children to a previous marriage are: two sons, Thomas Putnam and wife, Loretta of Barstow, Calif. and Clyde "Eddie" Putnam and wife, Connie of Whittier, Calif; three daughters, Barbara Maxwell and husband, Robert of Columbus, Ohio, Donna Olsen of Marysville, Ohio and Wanda Koski and husband, Richard of Toronto; a brother, Fred Putnam and wife, Blanche of East Liverpool, Ohio; stepson, Rody Exposito and wife, Helen of New Castle, Pa; two step-daughters, Linda Caniff of Edgewater, Fla. and Janet Spooner and husband, Paul of Lakeland, Fla; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Friends and family will gather for visitation today from 4-8 p.m. at the Clarke Funeral Home, 302 Main St., Toronto, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, with Minister Len Derico officiating. Burial will follow at the Toronto Union Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Toronto American Legion. on December 30, 2004.¹
