Callahan, on July 24, 1965 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.1,2,4 James Milton "Jim" Huffman died on August 26, 2019 at Beaver, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 80.4 He James "Jim" Milton Huffman, 80, of Beaver, WV passed away at his home on August 26, 2019. Jim grew up in Fayette and Raleigh Counties and was a 1957 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Jim served in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961. Upon his discharge from the military, Jim graduated from West Virginia Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and received his Master's Degree in Guidance and Counseling from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies. The majority of his career was spent in the field of higher education. He retired as the Associate Director of Admissions from Concord University in Athens, WV in 2005. He held previous roles in the Admissions Offices of Potomac State, West Virginia Tech, and West Virginia State College. Jim was passionate about discussing the importance of higher education with high school students and reveled in their academic and personal successes. He received the Anderson Milam Award from the West Virginia Association of College Registrars and Admissions Organization for service in his field. Other significant roles in his career include the personnel director of the United States Mine Health and Safety Academy and the manager of the Raleigh County Airport in Beckley, WV. As airport manager, Jim was surrounded by his love of aviation on a daily basis. One of his most notable moments was hosting the Blue Angels as part of the Raleigh County Airshow. He received his pilot's license while in the Air Force and continued to fly single engine planes and picked up an occasional corporate co-pilot gig on the side for his own enjoyment. Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing in tournaments including the West Virginia Amateur where he placed well in some of the top flights. He was blessed with a supportive set of golf friends and played in many weekly games at Grandview Country Club. He was an active member of Perry Memorial United Methodist Church, serving in various leadership roles and singing in the choir over the years. He was a frequent soloist and member of the men's quartet. Jim was a devoted husband, proud father, and adoring grandfather. He greeted everyone with a smile and kind word. Jim was a charismatic guy that was always ready to regale a crowd, big or small, with a story or a joke. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Jim was born on June 7, 1939 in Oak Hill, WV to the late John Carlos Huffman I and Ruth DeViese-Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Patricia "Patty" Newland-Huffman; his brother, John Carlos Huffman II; and stepmother, Viola Reed-Bare-Huffman. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Huffman-Van Mullekom & husband William Van Mullekom of Blacksburg, VA; two grandchildren, Marlee Van Mullekom and John Van Mullekom; a sister, Ann Huffman-Moore & husband Thomas Moore of Elgin, SC; and a brother, David D. Huffman & wife Linda Huffman of Summerville, SC; and many nieces, a nephew and beloved cousins. Funeral services will be conducted at Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Friday, August 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Scott Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. on August 28, 2019.4
