Angel on August 5, 1937 at Fayetteville, Fayette Co., West Virginia.2 Opal Mae Vickers died on October 7, 2010 at Boone Co., West Virginia, at age 89.5,3 She An angel has returned to Heaven. Opal Mae Angel, 89, of Sylvester left this life on Thursday, October 7, 2010, to be with her heavenly father. She was at home surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Mary Ellen Hudnall Vickers; two infant sisters; and the love of her life, Farris Angel. Opal was born on August 28, 1921, at Dry Branch on Cabin Creek in her grandparents' home. She lived in Whitesville for many years, before moving to Lookout in Fayette County. She attended Nuttall High School, but married her love before graduating. At the age of 56, she studied and received her GED. Opal has been a devoted Christian since accepting the Lord as her Savior as a nine-year-old child. When she was young, she was a member of the Sylvester Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday and Bible school. Then she became a member of Sylvester Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, and Bible school for many years. She especially loved working with teens. She enjoyed singing in the choir, and helping those in need through cooking, caring for others and supporting many missionary groups. Opal was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and was an excellent witness for Christ through word and deed. She was always available to offer love, understanding, and sound Christian advice to her family. Some of her last words were "continue to honor the Lord and serve him." That was her desire for her family, and to all she knew. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Farris Donovan Angel of Strongsville, Ohio; and her daughter and caregiver, Frances Scarbro of Sylvester; four grand daughters, Natalie Anguilano of Marco Island, Fla., Michelle Chapman of Elkview, Renee Kidd of Mink Shoals, and Gina Angel of Asheville, N.C; seven great-grandchildren, Marisa and Brianna, Chelsie, Emma and Trey and Thomas and Dylan. All were the light of her life. The family would like to thank the wonderful Hospice staff who allowed her to spend her final days in peace. Graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, October 11, in Pineview Cemetery, Orgas, with Pastor David Minturn officiating. Interment followed at the cemetery. Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. on October 20, 2010.3
