Ruth Dodd was born in Kincaid, W.Va., on June 2, 1914, the wife of the late Chauncy Harold Dodd Sr., and the daughter of the late Jobe Franklin Bragg and the late Cora Kincaid Bragg. Ruth was an active member for many years with the Fayetteville United Methodist Church, where she served as the church auditor, and as a member and chairperson of the UMW Dream Circle. She was a graduate of Oak Hill High School and of Stella Boothe Secretarial School in Huntington, West Virginia. Mrs. Dodd served as a legal secretary to the late Frank Mahan and, for a number of years, served as the magistrate clerk of Fayette County until her retirement at age 82. Ruth lived in Fayetteville until late 2004, when she moved to Augusta, Ga., so her son could better care for her medical needs. Survivors include her son, C. Harold Dodd Jr. and daughter-in-law, Mary Jane, of Martinez, Ga; grandsons, Jeffrey Scott Dodd and wife, Melanie, of Swannanoa, N.C., and Jason Harold Dodd and wife, Heather, of Cumming, Ga; great-grandchildren, Skyler Nicole Dodd and Jacob River Dodd of Swannanoa, N.C; sister, Mary Evelyn Alberchinski of Fayetteville, W.Va; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Rev. Clare Sulgit-Horn of the Fayetteville United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be held in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, immediately following. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service, from 1:30 p.m. until time of service, at the funeral home on Saturday.
