Not only enjoying the thrill of the hunt, he greatly enjoyed watching the animals react and would come home with many interesting stories. He and his older brother, Bob, spent so many happy days fishing, hunting, trapping and muzzle loader hunting together. He was a hunter and an avid competitive bass fisherman. He and his son, Marty, led the pack in many tournaments, allowing them the quality time he so cherished with his best friend and son. He was a fiercely devoted family man and his love and devotion was returned tenfold by those of us who loved him. Butch was a graduate of Poca High School and retired from Estes Express Lines. He is survived by many who shall remain nameless, but to name the ones who loved him best, his loving wife of 46-and-a-half years, Sharon; son, Marty of Cross Lanes; daughter, Gwen Knight and husband, Jack, of Poca; and three grandchildren, Justina and Sarah Knight and Russell McClanahan. on December 6, 2012.3

He is survived three sisters, Agnes Miller, Nina Massey and Loretta Sanson; a brother, Harry Dallas Dickens; and stepchildren, Claudette, Dorothy, Billie, James Stricklen, Bucky Stricklen, John Stricklen and Barbara Davis. Funeral service will held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 1, at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Eugene Miller officiating. Singing will be by the Happy Valley Boys. Interment will follow in Miller Cemetery, Rock Creek. on November 30, 2011.4

     Bettie Jo Simmons was buried at River View Cemetery, Alcorn, Kay Co., Oklahoma.7 She Bettie Jo Taylor, a Tonkawa resident for 43 years, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 25, 2017 at the Willow Haven Nursing Home in Tonkawa. She was 82 years old. Bettie was born on November 29, 1934 in Charleston, WV to parents, John and Hettie Simmons. She grew up in Charleston graduating from Stonewall School High and she continued her education at Northern Oklahoma College to become a Registered Nurse. She dedicated her life to serving her community for nearly 40 years. Bettie retired from the Ponca City Hospital in December 2009 after working there for nearly two decades. Bettie married Joseph Rex Taylor on February 9, 1960. They started out living in Walton's Mountain, WV and moved to Cincinnati, OH and Billings, OK before settling in Tonkawa, OK on April 12, 1974. Bettie is survived by her son, Kenny Taylor Sr. of Tonkawa, Jerry and Leonard Holly of Bixby, OK., Dennis Holly of Brooksville, OK, and her brother John Henry Simmons of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Rex Leroy Taylor, Kenny Bradley Taylor Jr, and David Daniel Taylor., and great grandchildren Alicia, Cherish, and David; and Rex III, Jacob, and Luke. Rex and Bettie traveled thousands of miles each summer in Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia to homecoming concerts for a week at a time. When he was able, he attended the Free Will Baptist Church in Ponca City and in Blackwell. Rex went to be with the Lord, whom he loved and faithfully served since a young age, Friday evening, Oct. 26 , 2001, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Bettie; two sons, Kenny of Hodgens and Dennis Holley and wife Karen of Brookville, Ohio; grandchildren, Dennis Holley Jr., Sean Holley, Sarah Holley and David Holley, all of Brookville, Ohio, Rex L. Stricklen, sons Michael (KC) Thompson and Matthew Thompson of South Daytona, FL as well as three stepchildren; John (Pam) Stricklen of Ormond Beach, FL, Wes (Renee) Stricklen of Port Orange, FL and Joy (Dennis) Dance of Zachary, LA; brother Ralph (Cha) McBee of Caddo Mills, TX; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
