Yoshiko finished high school in Oita, Japan, and graduated from Design and Fashion and Dressmaking School in Tokyo. She had worked for the Diamond Department Store in the bridal department. She also did private seamstress work for many prominient Charleston citizens. She was a member of Fairview UM Church, Kanawha Valley Christian Women's Association, Carbide Ladies Golf League, Carbide Bowling Leaague and the Nitro Senior and excercise group. Yoshiko was also preceded in death by her brother, Shoichi Hata. Mrs. Shockey is survived by her husband, Paul; son and wife, Paul Jr. and Pam Shockey of Cross Lanes; daughter and husband, Kay and Ray Little of Fairbanks, Alaska; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Takuko Hata of Osaka, Japan; and several nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens. on March 10, 2013.¹
