The daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Charles E. Edwards, Mavis was born on December 25, 1906 in Windsor, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Champ E. Lester, who died January 18, 1944 and her brothers, Clyde Edwards, Paul Edwards, Bruce Edwards and Charles Edwards. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Robert J. Main of Waynesboro, Patricia L. and Frank Marshall, III of Martinsville; a brother, Hugh Edwards of Christiansburg; grandchildren, George L. Main, wife Susan and son, Jared, David B. Main, wife Jacqueline, and sons, Elijah and Andy, Rebecca M. St.Clair, husband Henry, and daughter, Alexandria, Frank Marshall,IV, wife Jackie, and sons Joshua and Ryan. Mr. Lester attended Averett and Longwood Colleges and graduated from Radford University. She taught in Montgomery County County Schools and for twenty-two years taught second grade at McHarg School in Radford. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, laughter and love were her trademarks. A graveside service will be conducted at noon on Saturday at the family plot at Sunset Cemetery, Christiansburg, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Presbyterian Church of Radford, 4th and Randolph Streets. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at DeVilbiss Funeral Home and at the church following the memorial service. on December 17, 1999.3

He worked at Sherwin-Williams in Martinsville and later owned and operated a driver's ed school and also taught driver's ed at Chatham Hall. He loved living on the lake, traveling, and especially his dogs. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Marshall St. Clair; a son, Frank Marshall IV; a grandchild, Alexandria Mavis St. Clair; and a special friend, Sharon Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Marshall Dorsett. Graveside services will be conducted at Chatham Burial Park on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at 2 p.m. on November 2, 2020.3

Born May 3, 1931 at Lick Creek, WV, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Williams and Viola Conner Williams. Greta was raised in Pipestem and was a graduate of Hinton High School. She married Howard Eugene Johnston of Princeton in 1948. For many years, Greta was an active lady in the community, church, and various organizations. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and the Women's fellowship, Mercer County Farm Bureau Auxiliary, Mercer County Democratic Women's Club, Sun Valley Ruritan, and West Virginia Extension Homemakers Club. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Eugene Johnston, who died in 1987, along with a brother Eddie Dean Williams and a son-in-law William H. May. Those left to cherish her memory include three children, Deborah May of Lerona, WV, Valerie Thompson and husband Marcus Wayne of Wendell, NC, Steven Johnston of Speedway, WV; three grandchildren, Brian May, Kelly Thompson Montgomery and Kevin Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Brittini Orcutt, Alexis May, Madison May and Mason Montgomery; three great-great-grandchildren, Brycen, Khloe, and Kruz Orcutt; and her sister Mary Lee Lilly of Lewisburg, TN; in addition, numerous nieces and nephews. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be David Lilly, Mitchell Lilly, Kenneth Lilly, John Keith Johnston, Kevin Thompson and Scott Padgett. on October 3, 2020.3

     Mary Leigh Williams Mary Leigh Lilly, Oct 20, 1933 - Jun 29, 2021. Mary Leigh Lilly; born October 20th, 1933. The 2nd daughter and child of Clarence and Viola Williams of Pipestem, West Virginia. A 1951 graduate of Hinton High School in Hinton, WV. On November 28th, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart Arnold Ray Lilly, also of Pipestem, WV. Mary Leigh and Arnold Ray would later move to Baltimore, MD where they would have 3 sons (all surviving Mary). David W. Lilly of Lewisburg, Tn; Mitchell K. Lilly (Debbie) of College Grove, Tn; and Kenneth R. Lilly (Leah) of Lewisburg, Tn. After several moves, in 1976 Arnold and Mary found themselves in Lewisburg, Tn. where they would live out their remaining years. Mary was the grandmother of 10; 7 natural and 3 step. Heather Lilly Conditt of Shelbyville, Tn; Jeremy Lilly of Bethlehem, Ga; Keith Lilly of Powder Springs, Ga; Matt Lilly of Murfreesboro, Tn; Amanda Lilly Honea of Social Circle, Ga; Jake Lilly of Spring Hill, Tn; Austin Lilly of Spring Hill, Tn; and 3 step grand-children T.C. Hedge and Thomas Hedge of Tullahoma, Tn; and Mary Cate Costa of Canton, Ms. Mary was also blessed with 12 great grand-children. Preceded in death by her Brother Eddie Dean Williams and Sister Greta Williams Johnston, as well as her parents. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Arnold R. Lilly. Mary was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg. Mary passed from this earth on June 29th, 2021. She will be missed by all.      Arnold Ray Lilly On March 28, 2020, Arnold R. Lilly passed from this life to his heavenly home. Born July 16, 1932 in Pipestem, West Virginia. He was the 12th child of 13 born to Edward Allen Lilly and Lizzie Mae Lilly who both proceeded him in death. Surviving siblings are Charles Allen Lilly of Pipestem, West Virginia; and Drema Joy Marks who lives in Centerville, Md. Arnold was a 2-year letterman in both Football and Baseball for Hinton High School where he graduated in 1950. After practice, many times Arnold would have to hitch hike the 15 miles back home and complete his chores upon arrival. Arnold entered the United States Army after graduation where he served in the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team from 1950-53. He was always proud of his service to our country. Upon returning home, Arnold was blessed by the marriage to his High School Sweetheart, Mary Leigh (Williams) Lilly, who survives him in death. They were married on Nov. 28, 1953. Arnold dearly loved Mary as they were together in marriage for over 66 years. Arnold was a special Father to and is survived by 3 sons: David Lilly of Covington, Ga; Mitch Lilly of Murfreesboro, TN; and Ken Lilly of Lewisburg, Tn. As well as 2 Daughters-in-law Debbie Lilly of Murfreesboro and Leah Lilly of Lewisburg. He also was graced by 7 Grandchildren: Heather Conditt, Jeremy Lilly, Keith Lilly, Matt Lilly, Amanda Honea, Jake Lilly, and Austin Lilly. Also 3 Step Grandchildren: T.C. Hedge, Thomas Hedge, and Mary Cate Costa. As well as being survived by 12 Great Grandchildren. Arnold moved to Lewisburg, Tn. In 1976 where he proudly served as the Plant Manager and later General Manager of Mead Containerboard. He dearly loved the people he worked with and retired from Mead in 2000. He was a devout Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg. Arnold was highly involved in the Lewisburg community, serving as a City Councilman for 12 years, Babe Ruth League President, Marshall County Quarterback Club President, Lewisburg Gas Board Member, Board of Directors for Tennessee Technical Coatings, as well as being named 2001 Marshall County Senior Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Arnold was also a proud member of McDonald’s “Old Geezers” club. He loved his mornings at McDonalds. Loved immensely by his Family, Arnold always loved seeing familiar faces and greeted them with a warm smile and an open hand. He will be missed by all. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. on November 18, 2013.3
