He was born in Roanoke and was the son of the late Robert and Ethel Tavenner. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran and a retired engineer for V.D.O.T. He is survived by his wife, Leota East Tavenner; daughter and son-in-law, Deborah A. and Jeff Joyner of Prince George; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. and Marilyn B. Tavenner of Chesterfield, David T. and Robbie S. Tavenner of Mechanicsville, James M. and Debbie Tavenner of Chesterfield, Chris and Lynn Tavenner of Dinwiddie; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary T. and James Nichols of Roanoke, Mildred T. and Aubrey Moles of Salem; a brother, Randy Tavenner of Knoxville, Tenn; also ten grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2003, at Gearhart Cemetery, Ironto, with Rev. Ken Gray officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Friday prior to the service at Lotz Funeral Home, Salem, 1330 E. Main Street, Salem, Va. 24153 (540-389-9208). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Donor and Member Services, 120 Wall Street, 19 t h Floor, New York, N.Y. 10269-0652. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.
