He is preceded by grandparents, Harrison Lee Kropff, Vina Jane Kempleton Kropff, William Jasper Walton, Sarah Amanda Bolen Walton; parents, Raymond Hooker Kropff, Mary Naomi Walton Kropff; sister-in-law, Gypsy Burch Kropff; brother-in-law, Leroy Spradling; father-in-law, H. Scott Spradling; mother-in-law, Frances Fitzwater Spradling. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Velma Spradling Kropff; children, Gina Kropff Ellis, (Michael), Bruce Edward Kropff, II (Lauren Clatterbuck Kropff); siblings, Joseph L. Kropff (Betty), James R. Kropff (Gwen); grandchildren, Sydney McMakin (Kyle), Benjamin L. Ellis, and his life-long friends Carl Young and Billy Swain. Pete was born in Salem and attended Andrew Lewis High School where he enjoyed participating in many sports teams, especially football. He was an original member of “the Dudes” of Andrew Lewis High School which was started as a group of 13 friends and later evolved into an annual golf tournament that included many Andrew Lewis High School graduates. He was an avid golfer with a competitive spirit and won several tournaments. Pete was a Veteran who served our country as a Marine from 1959-1963. He was involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was very proud of his time in the service and had many good stories to tell of this time. Pete worked at Sav-a-Stop for a while, then Allstate in the “Computer Room” for 28 years where he made many lifelong friends and colleagues. Pete worked hard but also liked having a good time. Through the years, he was a member of several fraternal organizations such as the Elks, the Moose Lodge, and the Shriners. He particularly liked helping with the Shriners Circus and parades and was passionate about helping the children who would benefit from the fundraising efforts. Pete was a devoted and loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. There was nothing that he enjoyed more than spending time with his family and his many friends. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his spirit will remain with all who were fortunate enough to know him.3 He was born on February 23, 1939 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.2,3 He married Velma Esther Spradling, daughter of Humphrey Scott Spradling and Dora Frances Fitzwater, on October 14, 1961 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,2,3 Bruce Edward "Pete" Kropff died on October 30, 2024 at Virginia at age 85.3

She married Captain Judson Ireland Chalkley, U.S. Army Medical Corps, on December 31, 1943, in Raleigh, N.C. She and Dr. Chalkley moved in 1948 to Columbia. They have three children that survive her: Judson E. Chalkley, of Lexington, Ky., Mary Anne Chalkley of Minneapolis, Minn., and Sarah Chalkley Hubbell of Sudbury, Mass; seven grandchildren: Paul Hartman and Jessica Maratsos, both of Minneapolis, Minn; Joshua Chalkley of Boca Raton, Fla., Ana Chalkley Cox of Fort Benning, Ga., Drew Chalkley of Lexington, Ky., and Diana Hubbell and Dan Hubbell, both of Sudbury, Mass; and two great-grandchildren: Jeremiah Cox of Fort Benning and Judson Hartman of Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and Louis Hutchinson. on July 17, 2004.4

Hutchinson/Hutcherson and Sadie Taylor, on December 31, 1943 at Raleigh, Wake Co., North Carolina.1,2 Dr. Judson Ireland Chalkley died on October 4, 2003 at Columbia, Boone Co., Missouri, at age 87.2,3,4 He Judson Ireland Chalkley, 87, of Columbia died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Hitt St., with the Rev. Richard Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church. Dr. Chalkley was born Nov. 20, 1915, in Lexington to Adinarim Judson and Anne Chalkley. He married Mary Hutchinson on Dec. 31, 1943, in Raleigh, N.C., and she survives. He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington. He graduated from Westminster College in Fulton in 1936. He attended medical school in Columbia for two years and received a doctoral degree in 1941 from Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Chalkley served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was on the medical staff of Boone County Hospital - now Boone Hospital Center - from 1948 until his retirement in 1983. He served on the medical staff of Cooper County Hospital in Boonville and in Mexico, Fulton and Jefferson City. He was a consultant for the University of Missouri Medical Center. He was a member of the Rotary Club and served on the Housing Authority. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder and deacon. Survivors also include three children, Judson Evan Chalkley of Lexington, Ky., Mary Ann Chalkley Maratsos of Minneapolis and Sarah Aileen Chalkley Hubbell of Sudbury, Mass; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Jane Schott Truog of Kansas City. on October 6, 2003.2
