While employed, Alma was a member of Altrusa International and the National Office Manager's Association (NOMA). She remains a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the West Des Moines United Methodist Church. Alma married Otis Selindh in December 1956. Alma and Otie resided in West Des Moines. Alma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Otie, step-daughter, Sandra Thomas-Johnson; son-in-law, Dale Thomas; and granddaughter, Tami Thomas. on February 18, 2018.3

Mr. Selindh was born in Des Moines and lived in West Des Moines 40 years, coming from Sioux City. He retired as vice president of personnel and labor relations at Northwestern Bell Telephone and was a member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, West Des Moines United Methodist Church, Scottish Rite Bodies and Des Moines Pioneer Club. He was also past president of the Hawkeye chapter of Telephone Pioneers of America. Surviving are his wife, Alma; a daughter, Sandra Thomas of Battle Lake, Minn; four sisters, Dorothy Matthess of Riverside, Calif., and Irene Bjork, Edith Bergman and Margaret Nicholson, all of Des Moines; and a brother, Lester Selindh of Santa Ana, Calif. on November 21, 1992.3

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by a son, William Raymond "Tex" Martin; two sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her husband, Ralph W. Martin; two sons, Thomas Dean Boyd (Susie) and Richard Martin (Teresa); one step-daughter, Patricia McDorman; two sisters, Mae Naff and Gay Thomas; one step-brother, Charlie Sigmon; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Collins Funeral Home in Bassett with Pastor Tim Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., prior to the funeral service. The family would like to thank the staff of Memorial Hospital of Martinsville for their many acts of kindness. Arrangements are by Collins Funeral Home, Bassett, VA on October 7, 2016.1

Born July 2, 1959, in Martinsville, he graduated from Fieldale-Collinsville High School in 1978, and served in the Army. He was a former security guard at Bassett-Walker and was a member of Hill Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are his father and mother, Ralph W. Marin and Mabel Sigmon Martin of Fieldale; one daughter, Helen Maria Martin of Fieldale; one sister, Patricia McDorman of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Thomas Dean Boyd of Pleasant Grove and Richard Barry Martin of Fieldale, and paternal grandmother, Ethel M. Martin of Fieldale. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roselawn Burial Park by the Rev. Richard Harrison and David Deisher. The family will receive friends at Collins Funeral Chapel at Bassett from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at the home on N. Chestnut St., Fieldale. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Northside Baptist Church with Pastors Ron Peal and John Shelly officiating. Burial will be in Blackberry Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
