Born in Fayette County, W.Va. on March 20, 1920, he was the son of the late Lovell M. and Nova Sevy Ashley. He was employed as a property specialist in the Accounting Department at Radford Army Ammunition Plant, where he retired in 1982 with 35 years of service. Mr. Ashley was a veteran of the United States Army in which he served during World War II. For many years he was a member of the Price's Fork United Methodist Church and the Price's Fork Grange #786. Mr. Ashley was also a member of the Hunter's Masonic Lodge No. 156, A.F. & A.M., Blacksburg, the Blacksburg Royal Arch Chapter No. 65, and the Kazim Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., Roanoke. During his retirement years Mr. Ashley served on the Montgomery County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Board of Equalization. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Ruth Smith Ashley; and a sister and brother-in-law, Leona A. and James Bayes. Surviving are his wife, Irene B. Ashley; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Lowell E. Ashley, Christiansburg, David R. Ashley, and Kenneth E. and Jean T. Ashley, all of Roanoke; one daughter and son-in-law, Loretta A. and James E. Foster, Pensacola, Fla; one sister and brother-in-law, Anna A. and Richard H. Stewart, Spotsylvania; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Harvey C. Ashley, Hico, W.Va., John R. and Jean Ashley, Dorset, Ohio, and James M. and Virginia G. Ashley, Spotsylvania; two grandsons, Kenneth Gregory and Jason A. Ashley, both of Roanoke; one great-grandson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. on April 11, 1996.²

     Emma Bell Pardue Emma B. Kent, 88, passed away at her home in Spotsylvania, surrounded by her family. Emma was born on March 11, 1930 in Fauquier County. She retired from Prince William County Transportation where she worked for many years. Emma embraced life with the love of her family, extended church family, and she deeply loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Emma was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Paul A. Kent, her daughter, Donna M. Kent; and her mother, E. Marie Byrne. Emma is survived by five of her children, Gail Sweeney, Lorraine Swisher (Keith), Wayne Kent, Susan Stone, and Gary Kent (Shannon). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Hutchison was born at Bertha, W. Va., on July 9, 1939 a daughter of the late Walter “Baldy” and Ocie Young Barton. She was a 30-year resident of the Sweet Springs Valley at Gap Mills, co-owner of the Mountain View Family Dining at Gap Mills and a member of the Union Memorial Baptist Church at Union. Surviving is her husband of 33 years, William C. “Bill” Hutchison of Hinton; six loving children, Mallen Hefner of Sweet Springs, Nathan Wiley of Fort Springs, Vaughan Hutchison of Hinton, Neil Hutchison of Sweet Springs, Wilimena “Willie” Jones of Union and Meresa Sue Hutchison of Hinton; two brothers, Charles “Sonny” Barton of Callaghan, Va. and Bill Utterback of Lindside; two sisters, Nancy Sizemore of Pickaway and Nora Sue Dunn of Cashmere; and six grandchildren also survive. Burial will follow in the Barton Cemetery at Forest Hill. on October 16, 2000.⁴

He was a retired section man for the C&O Railroad and attended Midway Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Belva Church Hall, in 1983. Survivors: brothers, Lewis Hall of Princeton, Lee and Bill Hall of Kegley; sisters, Cleo Tabor of Kegley, Belvia Hall of Baltimore, Md. Funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Williams Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Bowen officiating and burial at Sunset Memorial Park. on November 2, 1984.⁵

Hall, 80, of 1291 Matoaka Road (Lake Bottom) , Rock, died Saturday, March 9, 2002 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center. Born Jan. 27, 1922 in Sophia, she was the daughter of the late Randell Ward and Ida Miller Ward. Mrs. Hall was a homemaker and a member of the Kegley Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Hall; and a sister, Jane Brown. She is survived by three daughters, Jerry Hall of Lake Bottom with whom she made her home; Susan Wright and husband, Herman of Abbs Valley, Va., and Debbie Hedrick and husband, Keith of Camp Creek; two sons, Gary Hall and wife, Donna of Princeton, and William R.L. Hall and wife, Mary of Kegley; two sisters, Dorothy Wyrick of Beckley, and Della Mahone of Princeton; eight grandchildren, Thomas Wright, Wayne Wright, Rebecca Farley, Tammy Wright, Jackie Copenhaver, Leland Hedrick, Amanda Hall, and Kevin Hall; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Revs. Jerry Martin and Rick Sester officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. on March 11, 2002.³
