John Cecil Lowman John Cecil Lowman was born in Washington, D.C., July 20, 1940, and his family moved to Washington, Indiana in 1951. A graduate of Washington High School, he attended Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He met and married his wife, Beverly Kay Sharum in 1959. They raised 5 children, Elizabeth Anne Lowman (husband Shannon Abernathy), Kevin Brian Lowman, John Christopher Lowman; Timothy Wayne Lowman, Kathlene Adair Lowman (Husband Justin McElroy). Twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Winifred Elizabeth and Morris Sampson Lowman, brother Morris Smead Lowman, who was killed while serving our country in the Navy in 1944. His sister, Mary Glen Kacy survives. In the San Augustine community, John worked for the Texas Forest Service, San Augustine School District., and Tri-County Community Action. But he derived the most pleasure from painting and restoration of Medallion homes for Mr. Raggie Stripling in San Augustine. His 3 sons were invaluable in this endeavor. John was active in the community and served as Deacon in the Baptist church for many years. He was a youth leader and helped with stage productions at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, constructing stage sets and helping with Christmas programs with the the youth there. At San Augustine First Baptist Church he and wife Kay assisted David Mercer, with several stage productions including "Celebrate Life" which they took on the road for 12 days. John helped with the lighting and assisted in any way possible. He was also deacon at First Baptist Church, Alamo, Texas. He was skilled craftsman and constructed several homes for family members in San Augustine. He also loved to travel throughout the United States where he made, and Kay sold, earrings at Arts and Crafts Shows. Mexico called to him and, as he was fluent in Spanish, while living in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas helped missionaries from the United States communicate on several Mission trips. He taught English as a Second language in the U.S. and Mexico. He left many great friends in Mexico. He never met a stranger and wasn't afraid to travel wherever he wanted.1 He was buried at Shiloh Cemetery, Denning, San Augustine Co., Texas.3 He was born on July 20, 1940 at Washington, D.C..1 He married Beverly Kay Sharum in 1959.1 John Cecil Lowman died in December, 2016 at age 76.1
