Grider and Fred Smith, in the mountains forty miles from Fresno, Dec. 27, undertook to warm a twenty-five-pound box of dynamite by a stove. It exploded with terrific violence, leaving nothing to show where the building stood. The men were not killed, but will scarcely survive. Grider had both arms torn off, and Smith lost one.4 He married Ruth Emily Rowland.5 O. C. Grider was born on August 27, 1858 at Davis Co., Iowa.1 He died on December 28, 1894 at Fresno Co., California, at age 36.3

Grider of St. Joseph, Mo; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Sherman of Malcom, Ia., and Mrs. Irvin Bowling of Bloomfield. Mrs. Ekenbarger was a member of Cedar chapter Eastern Star. on September 13, 1930.3
