Mills, Jr., 96, of The Havens, 2205 New Hope Road, Apt. 304, Princeton, formerly of Teri Circle, Princeton, and Welch, died Saturday, July 27, 2019, at Princeton Community Hospital. Born February 17,1923, at Pembroke, Virginia, he was the son of the late Luther J. Mills, Sr. and Alma Brumfield Mills. LJ was a graduate of Welch High School. He was a proud veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army, 110th Infantry Regiment. While serving his country, he received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European/African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. LJ had a long career with Appalachian Power Company in Welch, having worked for more than 35 years as a lineman/area serviceman. Upon moving to Princeton, he became a member of the First Baptist Church in Princeton. While his health permitted, he loved the outdoors and nature, and was a very talented wood carver. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Carol Lynn Mills in 1968, a grandson, Kevin Michael Rose in 2010 along with two siblings; Preston Mills and Hallie Jennings. Those left to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 75 years and 6 months, Mayme Ellen Church Mills; Daughter and son-in-law, Sonjia and Robert Sutphin of Hondo TX; Granddaughter and husband, Vanessa and John Roach of Helotes TX; Two siblings, Louise Justice and Dorothy McVey; Host of nieces and nephews; His four-legged canine buddies, the grand dog Kate, along with two great-grand dogs; Jack and Magoo. Services celebrating the life of Luther J. Mills, Jr. will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 2, 2019 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Dr. David Dockery officiating. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum at Bluewell. on July 30, 2019.10
