Once discharged from the army he enrolled in Reinkes Academy of Art in New Orleans, Lousiania. He later transferred to Galveston, Texas and enrolled with James Woodruff at the University of Houston. He shared his talents with Gulf Coast residents as well as people around the country and the world. He had the privilege of giving them the paintings that consist of seascapes, shrimp boats and marine scenes with a sprinkling of historical buildings, bayous and Texas Hill Country landscapes. John is survived by his sons James L. Tassin and wife Sarah and John M. Tassin; daughters Patricia A. Jernigan, Laura A. Salas and husband Ken, Jan E. Creppon and husband Billy; thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. on March 18, 2009.2

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and baseball, but his chief interest was his family. He was a member of the First Methodist Church and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was married March 16, 1925 to the former Ruth Archer who survives him. Also surviving are six sons, William Archer Shires of Raleigh, N. C., James Everett Shires of Columbus, Miss., Ben Shires of Brookhaven, Miss., David Shires of Denver, Col., John Shires and Robert Shires of Jackson; three daughters, Mrs. Walter Bridger, Mrs. Francis Presson and Miss Martha Shires of Jackson; two sisters, Mrs. Amos Burtt of Tulsa, Okla. and Mrs. Goldia Gobelet of Nashville; and 10 grandchildren. Active pallbearers to serve will be Bob Bell, Charles Harvy, Swannee Lawrence, Sam Matthews Jr., David Nunn Hall and Hampton Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be D. E. Philpot, E. B. McAuley, P. G. Hunt, J. J. Gaffney Jr., Charles Chandler, William Harvey, H. G. Simpson and Dr. Thomas Ballard. on May 15, 1964.6

Dr. Harvey was instrumental in the building of Unicoi County Memorial Hospital and later was instrumental in establishing its Long Term Care Unit. He was the original consulting doctor for the Erwin Emergency and Rescue Squad and served Unicoi County as coroner for 35 years. Dr. Harvey served as chief surgeon for the former Clinchfield Railroad for a number of years and was honored for his service with a Lifetime Honorary Membership of the Medical Section Association of American Railroads. Dr. Harvey was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society, the American Medical Association, the Tennessee Medical Association, a charter member of the Tri-County Medical Association, and a charter fellow and member of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Ratcliff Harvey; two daughters, Suzanne Williams, Johnson City, and Rebecca Love, Erwin; two brothers, William Harvey, Nashville, and Charles D. Harvey, Memphis; one sister, Ruth Bealy, Fairhope, Ala; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. on February 19, 1992.4

He was born in Nashville on July 13, 1928 to Thomas Everett and Ida Lee Shires Harvey. He is preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth Lee Wheeler. Charles graduated from Father Ryan High School and served in the United States Navy. He graduated from George Peabody College, Vanderbilt University undergraduate and Graduate School. After his ordination by the Presbytery of Nashville, Presbyterian Church (USA), he served Pastorates in McMinnville, TN and Trenton, TN. Charles was the organizer and pastor of Christ Church Presbyterian in Memphis. At that same time he was the Stated Clerk of the Synod of Tennessee. Rev. Harvey left Christ Church to become the General Presbyter of the Presbytery of Memphis. Rev. Harvey worked tirelessly as a member on the Work Release Board of Shelby County Government. After he retired he continued to serve as a pulpit supply when called upon. He was known in the family for being able to discuss the German theologian, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, for hours. Due to an inability to stand for long lengths of time, he conducted his last wedding while sitting at the kitchen table with the bride and groom. Charles leaves his wife and best friend, Billie Lynn Harvey. He also leaves his local nephews, Thomas E. Harvey (Suzanne) and Lynn L. Garrison (Clinton) and numerous other nephews, great-nephews and nieces and great-great-nephews and nieces. on July 15, 2015.4

Charles Douglas Harvey, son of Thomas Everett Harvey and Ida Lee Shires, on December 22, 1952 at Charlotte, Dickson Co., Tennessee.1 Rhoba Jane Neblett died on August 23, 2008 at Charlotte, Dickson Co., Tennessee, at age 79.4,3 She NEBLETT-HARVEY, Rhoba Jane - Age 79, Charlotte. August 23, 2008. Ms. Neblett-Harvey was a psychotherapist and clinical social worker. The daughter of John B. and Augusta Tippit Neblett of Charlotte, Tennessee in Dickson County. She graduated from Charlotte High School, Ward-Belmont College, the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, The University of Tennessee College of Social Work with additional studies at the Universitiy of Chicago. Rhoba Jane lived for 20 years in Memphis prior to retirement in 1986 from the Tn. Department of Mental Health. For 12 years she was on the faculty of University of Tn., at Memphis where she was on the diagonostic team at U.T. Child Development Center (now the Boling Center for Developmental Disabilities) and developed and directed a short term inpatient treatment center for children. Earlier positions included 11 years in Montgomery, Warren and Gibson Counties in child welfare working with adoptions and foster care, protective services in addition to private practice. She returned to Charlotte following retirement and lived at the family home on St. Paul Road, Charlotte, TN. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American Revolution, The National Society of University Professors; listed in Who's Who of American Women amd Who's Who of International Educators. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Harvey Wheeler; sister, Martha Neblett Wall, both of Charlotte; nieces, Mary Jane Wall of Simpsonville, S.C., Kathryne Neblett DeWitt of Nashville; nephew, John B. Wall of Burns. She was preceded in death by her parents, John B. and August Tippit Neblett and her brother, James H. Neblett. The family will receive friends at 12 Noon on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Dickson Funeral Home prior to her Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. from the graveside at Union Cemetery, conducted by Bro. Robert Cullom. on August 24, 2008.3
