After years of radiation and chemo he went into remission, relapsing only once. In July, Paul was diagnosed with glioblastoma. He had completed his first treatment of radiation and chemo Monday. Paul was an avid Tarheel fan. He loved music from Allison Krause to LED Zeppelin. During the majority of his career as a CAD Technician, he helped design airports and began a love of airplanes. Paul was predeceased by his parents William Archer Shires and Katherine Shires Bussa. He is survived by his step-mother, Nancy Shires of Greenville; brother, Kenneth (Terri) of Hillsborough; sister, Beth Knight (Bill) of Allen, TX; nephew, Brandon Knight; nieces, Sarah Holmes (Chris) and Jessica Bunn (Eric); and his longtime love, Elizabeth Huber. on September 13, 2019.3

Archer.2,1 Katherine Myers was born on January 2, 1926 at Forrest City, St. Francis Co., Arkansas.3 She and William Archer Shires were divorced on April 13, 1971 at Wake Co., North Carolina.4 Katherine Myers died on September 22, 2013 at Raleigh, Wake Co., North Carolina, at age 87.3 She Katherine Shires Bussa, January 2, 1926-September 22, 2013. A Raleigh resident for over 60 years, Kat, as she was affectionately called, was the office manager of the Wake County Unit of the American Cancer Society when she retired. As a dedicated mother and homemaker, she was a grade mother at Emma Conn Elementary, a den mother in Cub Scouts, active in the Woodcrest Garden Club and served on the altar guild at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Born in Forrest City, Arkansas to William and Addie Myers, she married William Archer Shires of Jackson, Tennessee where they attended Lambuth College. Later in life she married James Bussa of New York. She is survived by her children: Kenneth Michael Shires (Terri) of Hillsborough, Elizabeth Shires Knight (Bill) of Allen, TX and Richard Paul Shires of Raleigh. Grandchildren: Sara Elizabeth Knight Gerkin of Reston, VA, Brandon Christopher Knight, Austin, TX and Jessica Shires Bunn of Clayton. Step-grandchildren: Kevin Ryan Page of Durham and Zachary David Page of Charlotte. Twin great grandchildren: Grayson Elizabeth Gerkin and Jackson Cole Gerkin. Great grandson: Easton Sydney Bunn. on September 24, 2013.3

Cora Elizabeth Simpson Cora Simpson Shires, age 92, of Jackson, TN, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Cora was born in Middleton, TN, on Friday, December 21, 1928, to the late Henry Grady Simpson, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Rogers) Simpson. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 20 years, James Everett Shires, Sr. who passed away January 15, 1971; her cherished son, James Everett Shires, Jr. who passed away on November 3, 2018; brothers, Jack Simpson, Jr. and Harold Simpson; and sisters, Jerry Whaley and Pat Elliott. Survivors include her grandsons, Michael Shires and Steven Shires and their mother, Sherri Shires all of Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law Ruth Hall Simpson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arrington Funeral Directors with Henry Simpson, III and Tim Simpson officiating with burial to follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in Jackson, TN.2 She was buried at Highland Memorial Gardens, 3360 North Highland Avenue, Jackson, Madison Co., Tennessee.2,3 She was born on December 21, 1928 at Middleton, Hardeman Co., Tennessee.2 As of October, 1950,her married name was Shires.1 She married James Everett Shires Sr., son of William Monroe Shires and Ruth F.
