He married Corilda Stewart in 1949 in Michigan. They moved to Brookings in 1951, purchasing Elk Creek Ranch on the Winchuck River. He worked in the lily bulb industry in the early 1950s and then at local lumber mills, retiring from South Coast Lumber Co. in 1979. He was dedicated to his family and his animals. The natural world fascinated him and he spent time exploring it. He enjoyed the study of words and philosophy and the encyclopedia and the unabridged dictionary were his favorite reading material. His family was very active in 4-H and Kendall and Corilda were recognized for their contribution to the youth of Curry County and served as grand marshal of the Curry County Fair in 1998. In his later years he lived at Macklyn House and was well known in town for the many miles he walked with his faithful canine companion, Hesper. He is survived by his sister Ruth Brady of Alma; daughters Corilda (Cilde) Grover of Brookings, Genni Arledge and her husband Rick Arledge of Drummonds, Tenn., and Shawna Gavin of Mission. Also surviving are five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters, his wife Corilda, and daughter Blanche Wellock. on June 14, 2008.3

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston with Dr. Dennis Johnson officiating. on March 29, 2012.1
