He was born September 11, 1924 in Selma to the late Virgil and Nannie Elizabeth Turner Dame. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a retired machinist for CSX Transportation. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and the International Association of Machinists. He enjoyed helping others. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene Elmore Dame and his second wife, Margaret Gibson Dame; two sisters, Margie Dame and Betty Hinebaugh; and two brothers, Eugene Lynwood Dame and Robert Wayne "Bobby" Dame. He is survived by a sister, Nancy Mays of Charlottesville; an uncle, Houston Turner and wife Imogene of Selma; five nephews, Timmy Mays of Scottsville, Stephen Mays and wife Wanda of Charlottesville, Bruce D. Mays of Scottsville, Robert B. Mays and wife Tammy of Williamsburg, and Michael Dame and wife Jessica of Selma; a number of great nieces and great nephews; and a special caregiver, Susan Nicely of Iron Gate. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Mike Warren officiating.
