Christie Starr Goad Christie Starr Goad Miller, 75, of Taylorsville, NC, formerly of Princeton, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born April 24, 1948, in Williamson, WV, she was the daughter of the late Moody Harold Goad and Pauline Virginia Christie Goad. Christie worked for the Celanese Corporation (C.C. Mfg.) in Narrows, VA, where she retired as a supervisor after 27 years of service. She had been a resident of Taylorsville since 2022, moving there from Princeton to be near her daughter and grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John D. “Jack” Miller. Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Miller Brown and husband Vaughn of Taylorsville, NC; two grandchildren, Lux Ellen Lilly and Elijah “Eli” John Lilly; and one brother, Robert Kelly “Bobby” Goad and wife Joyce of Dublin, VA. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton.3 She was buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Courthouse Road, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.3 She was born on April 24, 1948 at Williamson, Mingo Co., West Virginia.3 As of circa 1967,her married name was Miller.4 She married John Dayton Miller circa 1967.1,3,4 Christie Starr Goad died on March 10, 2024 at Hickory, Burke Co., North Carolina, at age 75.3

John Dayton Miller was buried at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Courthouse Road, Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.2 He John Dayton “Jack” Miller, 82 of Princeton died Sunday, April 12, 2020, at Mary Heath Private Care Home in Camp Creek. Born in Princeton March 18, 1938 he was the son of the late Guy Clayton Miller and Lola Ellen Swim Miller. Jack retired from the Celanese Corporation in Pearisburg after 20 years of service. Prior to starting with Celanese he worked for the Virginian Railroad and North American Rockwell. ack was a member of Burke Memorial Baptist Church in Princeton and was a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, James C. “Jimmy” Miller, and one sister, Lucille Jones. Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Christie Starr Goad Miller of Princeton; one daughter, Pamela Miller Lilly and husband Vaughn Brown of Taylorsville, NC; and two grandchildren, Lux Ellen Lilly and Elijah “Eli” John Lilly. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Marvin Eugene Reed, 78, of Matoaka, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital after suffering a long illness. Born Sept. 4, 1933 at Widemouth, he was the son of the late Lewis Reed and Myrtle Kegley Reed. Mr. Reed served in the U.S. Navy for 11 years through the Korean War and Cuban crisis. He attended schools at Springton and Matoaka. He retired from the Mercer County Board of Education after 24 years of service. He was a member of the Cornerstone Independent Baptist Church in Princeton. He loved to travel, watch Cincinnati Reds baseball games and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Reed; and one sister, Janice McKinney. Survivors include his loving and caring wife of 54 years, Vernia Mae Underwood Reed; two sons, Ricky Reed and his wife, Rvonne, of Crumpler, and Keith Reed and his wife, Trish, of Matoaka; five brothers, Walter Reed and his wife, Louise, of New Oxford, Pa., Ronnie Reed of Pottsboro, Texas, Lewis Reed of Pottsboro, Texas, Kenneth Reed and his wife, Joyce, of Sherman, Texas, and Calvin Reed of Pottsboro, Texas; two sisters, Glenda Reed of Jena, La. and Judy Wade of Chattanooga, Tenn; two grandchildren, Candice Reed and Thomas Reed; four adopted grandchildren, James, Utah, Zachary, Issac; three great-grandchildren, Shade, Jeramiah and Logan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. James Ford and the Rev. Marvin McKinney officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Funeral honors will be conducted by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Reed, Ronnie Reed, James Reed, Jamie Ford, Richard Underwood and Ronnie Cecil. on June 7, 2012.4

He was born at Oakvale and was a son of the late P. S. and Annie Carr Melvin. Survivors include six sons, Bill and Tracey Melvin of Matoaka, Chester Melvin of Princeton, Arthur Melvin of Middletown, Lacy Melvin of Newport News, Va., and Earl Melvin of Key West, Fla; seven daughters, Mrs. Robert Crane, Mrs. Robert Gray, and Mrs. Gussie Burton, all of Matoaka, Mrs. Charles Musser of Richmond, Va., Mrs. Leroy Sutton of Lake City, Fla., Mrs. Leon Meters of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Hubert Price of Pascagoula, Miss; and a brother, Doss Melvin of Matoaka. He was a retired employe of the Virginian Railway Co. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Mary Branch Church of God in Matoaka, with Rev. John Gray officiating. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery on the Bluefield-Princetone Road. on October 17, 1967.4
