     John B. Butler was born on April 4, 1945 at Columbus, Bartholomew Co., Indiana.2 He married Norma K. Stevenson, daughter of Ray Edward Stevenson and Amy Olean Sawyer, on June 2, 1990.1,2 John B. Butler died on February 24, 2004 at Columbus, Bartholomew Co., Indiana, at age 58.2 He John B. Butler, 58, of Columbus, Ind., died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at 6:12 a.m. at his home. He was born on April 4, 1945, in Columbus, the son of Everett "Jack" Butler and Dorothy Brooks Butler, who both preceded him in death. He married Norma K. Stevenson Butler on June 2, 1990; she survives. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and Central Junior High and graduated from Columbus High School in 1963. He attended Ball State University, graduated from University of Evansville and taught at English High School in Indiana, where he was the assistant basketball coach. He taught at St. Bartholomew Catholic Elementary School and coached both the boy's and girl's basketball teams from 1971 to 1977. He was employed by the City of Columbus Engineering Department on June 11, 1979, before transferring to the Planning Department. He played Santa Claus for over 30 years and was an avid collector of many things, including Santa memorabilia, Mickey Mouse memorabilia, old movies and trains. He enjoyed horses, dogs and music. He was an authority on B western movies. He was an avid listener and reader and a friend to many. He was a member of the Elks Club and a former member of the Jaycees. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Amy Stevenson of Brazil; brother-in-law, Earl Stevenson of Brazil; sister-in-law, Wilma Jenkins of Brazil; five nephews; one niece; and a few cousins. Memorial services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Vernon Jewell-Nick Rittman Funeral Home. Calling hours will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. and also Friday from noon until time of service. If friends so desire, memorial donations should be made to Riley Hospital for Children. on February 27, 2004.2

Rev. Paul Norris of Indianapolis will officiate and burial will be in the Calcutta cemetery. The widow of the late Samuel E. Parsons, she had resided in Carbon for the past 56 years. She was an active member of the Carbon Church of God. Surviving are five daughters Mrs. Dorothy Black, Mrs. Gertrude Pell, Mrs. Dovie McQueen, Mrs. Thelma Dowell, all of Brazil, and Mrs. Gladys Benslinger, Indianapolis; two sons, Ray E., Carbon and Raymond E., Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Florence Blake, Brazil; a half-sister, Mrs. Ann Carver, Terre Haute. on April 29, 1951.6
