Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Davis died in a Charlottesville hospital Sunday. He was born in Person County, N. C., in 1902, a son of Green Davis and Mrs. Ella Mae Gregory Davis. He was married to Alice Newby Davis and was a member of McCanless Memorial Methodist Church. A retired textile employe and farmer, he is survived by his wife of South Boston; six daughters, Mrs. Elsie Mae Hamm of Richmond, Mrs. Inez Morris, Mrs. Lavinia Yancey, Mrs. Bertha D. Martin, Mrs. Lessie Choplin and Mrs. Margie D. Jones, all of South Boston; four sons, Lewis Davis, of Richmond, Joe Davis, Albert Davis and William Davis, all of South Boston; and 14 grandchildren. Also surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Martha Robertson, Mrs. Bertha Booth, Mrs. Lottie Vaden and Mrs. Jennie Yancey, all of South Boston, and Mrs. Hattie Long of Roxboro, N. C; and two brothers, Johnny Davis and Henry Davis, both of South Boston. The family is at the residence on Berry Hill Rd. on January 10, 1967.⁴

He was a member of Second Baptist Church and was a former member of the Halifax Co. Rescue Squad and the Cluster Springs Vol. Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Kimberly F. Newby of South Boston, Va; two sons, Freddy N. "Trey" Newby III and James Nelson Newby, both of South Boston; his mother, Rita H. Craven and husband Ronald of Sanford; a brother, Dwight Lee Newby of Thomasville; and a great aunt, Sylvia Thomas of Alton, Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Freddy N. Newby Sr; and his grandparents, Sadie T. Newby, M.E. "Shorty" Newby and Mr. & Mrs. Robert Harris. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at North Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Brooks Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
