Mr. Miller was born at the family farm on Madams Creek, near Hinton, on Sept. 21, 1930. He was the son of the late Virgil and Eva Bennett Miller and the grandson of the late Lacy Ballard Miller and Cora Dodd Miller Hinton and the late John and Izora Bennett. Mr. Miller was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Miller; and a brother-in-law, Oscar Basham. Survivors include his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Joyce Harvey Miller. They would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Nov. 26. Other survivors include a daughter, Medeta Watts, of Justice, W.Va; sons, Lacy Lynn Miller and wife, Mary, of Cool Ridge, W.Va; Tommy Harvey (a cousin raised from childhood) and wife, Christy, of Forest Hill. He was the proud grandfather of Nathaniel and Andrew Watts and Ida Beth and Samuel Miller; a sister, Ruth Basham of Jumping Branch, W.Va; brother-in-laws; Alva Harvey and wife, Mary, of Hinton, W.Va., and Edward Harvey and wife, Althea, of Forest Hill, W.Va; father-in-law, Oris Harvey and wife, Piney, of Forest Hill, W.Va. He also left a host of other family and friends to cherish his memory. Mr. Miller, who was known as "Jimmy" to his family and many friends, was a graduate of Hinton High School and West Virginia Institute of Technology at Montgomery, W.Va. He also attended Concord College. Jimmy was a retired Summers County School teacher with 34 years of service. He taught Industrial Arts and Mathematics. Jimmy was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country during the end of the Korean War. Jimmy was master woodworker and produced many pieces of fine furniture for his family and friends. He was also an avid gardener. He and his wife, Joyce, took great joy in canning and freezing their produce, as well as sharing liberally with others. Jimmy was a devout Christian and a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church at Red Sulphur Springs. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, with Pastors Derrick Leslie and Darrell Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral parlors. Rudy Allen, Lake Lyons, Randy Hodges, David Basham, Daniel Basham, Johnny Booth and Bob Cales will serve as pallbearers. Bob Fox, Sam Goodall, Wayne Harvey, Robert McDonald, Harold Richmond and Marvin Basham will serve as honorary pallbearers. She was a former school teacher of the Josiah Lilly School and had attended Concord College. She was known for her expertise of sewing and seamstress work and enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Basham; brother, James L. Miller; and sister, Margaret Miller. Born Oct. 12, 1917, at Ellison, he was the son of the late Aden Lewis and Ollie Via Pack Basham. Mr. Basham was a member of the Jumping Branch Gospel Tabernacle and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired truck driver for the W.Va. Department of Highways, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was preceded in death by seven brothers and three sisters. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth Miller Basham; five children, Marvin Basham and wife Marsha, Daniel Basham and wife Sandra, Virginia Ward and husband Grady, and David Basham and wife Shelia, all of Jumping Branch, and Frances Richmond and husband Danny of Loris, S.C; nine grandchildren, Adrian, Danica, Kristin, Stacy, Jason, Brandon, Erin, Susan, and Logan; and a sister, Irene Gibbons of Clarksville, Tenn. She was the daughter of the late Oris Lee and Bessie (Hogan) Harvey. Her mother died a few days after her birth, and her paternal grandparents, John Pearly and Ida (Lilly) Harvey took her to raise. She resided with her Grandmother Ida until November 26, 1958, when she married James Lacy Miller. James "Jimmy" preceded her in death on October 13, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her brother Alva L. Harvey and half-sister Lora Mae Williams and step-mother Piney Harvey. Mrs. Miller was an excellent gardener. She canned and preserved much of the produce they raised. She assisted her late husband with numerous woodworking projects. She was an outstanding cook. She loved preparing large family meals and having her family around her. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church at Red Sulphur Springs, and had resided at Forest Hill for 51 years. She is survived by three children: Medeta Miller Watts, Lacy Lynn (Margaret) Miller, and Tommy A. Harvey. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild: Nathaniel (Wendi) Watts, Andrew (Kaitlin) Watts, Ida Beth Miller, Samuel Miller, Sarah Harvey, Daniel Harvey, and Lundon Kinsolving. She is also survived by one brother, Edward (Althea) Harvey) and one sister-in-law, Mary Harvey, and numerous special cousins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. James Blume and staff at Forest Hill Family Practice, to Davita Dialysis at Fairlea, and to her caregivers Chrystal Ward and Marlene Cook. Her children also want to send a special thanks out to her precious grandchildren, cousins, and neighbors who assisted in her care and were faithful to call or visit. Funeral services will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, September 15, 2016 with Pastor Derrick Leslie and Pastor Eddie Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz. Friends may call from 6 - 8 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral parlors. Those serving as pallbearers will be: sons and grandsons, along with Gary Meadows, Rudy Allen, Bob Cales, and Robert McDonald.
