Doris Rae Pring was born on August 13, 1926 at Roanoke, Virginia.1,4,2,3 As of June 19, 1942,her married name was Crowder.1 She married William Lewis Crowder, son of Robert Lewis Crowder and Lucy Frances Zell, on June 19, 1942 at Hollins, Roanoke Co., Virginia.1 Doris Rae Pring and William Lewis Crowder were divorced on May 10, 1950 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.5 Doris Rae Pring died on March 2, 2014 at Norfolk, Virginia, at age 87.4,3 She Doris Pring Starkey, 87, of Chesapeake, went home with Jesus on Sunday, March 2, 2014 while at Norfolk Sentara Hospital in Norfolk, Va. She was born to Charlie Pring and Lula Sink Pring on August 13, 1926. She was the wife of Donald Lee Starkey who predeceased her on December 26, 1973. She is survived by her son, David Starkey and his wife, Janis, of Chesapeake, Va; daughter, Carole Maddy and her husband, Harold, of Baird, Texas; son, Stephen Starkey and his wife Eve of Salisbury, Md; and daughter, Donna Lane of Jupiter, Fla. She is also survived by her aunts, Lois Dezelich of Bedford, Va. and Elizabeth Sink of Roanoke, Va; sister-in-law, Shirley Gardner of California; as well as grandchildren, Debbi Starkey of N.C., David Starkey, Jr. of Nevada, Jeremy Starkey and his wife Katherine of Suffolk, Va., Stefani and Billy Morin of Mukilteo, Wash., Jaime Starkey of Nashville, Tenn., and Heather Lane of Jupiter, Fla. She was graced with eight great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She grew up in Roanoke, Va. and moved with her husband to Norfolk County, VA (Chesapeake) in 1947. She began driving a school bus for Norfolk County/City of Chesapeake in 1954 and continued until 1967 when her youngest daughter graduated. During her tenure as a bus driver, she was a favorite of the Great Bridge High School Marching Band and many of the sports teams as she drove them to inter-scholastic events. She then began her career with the United States Postal Service in Chesapeake, VA where she worked until her retirement in 1989. She was often commended by customers and superiors for her noteworthy attention to customer needs. In 1989, she moved back to Roanoke, VA to take care of her Mother. She continued working on a part-time basis so she could be available to provide care and companionship to her Mother and several Aunts who did not drive. After her Mother's passing in 1998, she returned to Chesapeake, VA in 1999 to live near her children. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA at 1 p.m. on Friday, March, 14, 2014. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene in Salisbury, MD or Saint Mark Christian Academy in Portsmouth, VA. on March 11, 2014.3

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Stella and Gene Lochmiller of Nashville; sister, Stella Klabouch of Long Beach, CA; grandchildren, Laura and Nina Donatucci; Steve Harrison, Richard Doyle, Jr., Mary J. Doyle, and John Doyle; and 9 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank St. Francis Nursing Home and Hospital staff for the kindness and care that they have extended to our loved one during her stay there. Crowder and his wife, Jean; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
