Her Social Security Number was 226-30-5861.6 Mary Elaine Wilson Elaine Wilson Matheson, 79, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2009. Interment will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park with Jeff Askam, Jim Bass, Ed Dietz III, Jim Greve, Dick McHargue, Michael Kennedy, Earl Larkin, Michael Lawrence and Mike McMahan serving as bearers of her casket. If it can be said of a person that she enjoyed life well-lived, it can be said emphatically of Elaine. Born on Dec. 1, 1929, to Lucy and Walter "Woody" Wilson in Williamson, W.Va., Mary Elaine spent her childhood years in Williamson and Lynchburg, Va. She left Lynchburg to begin her business career at the Navy Department in Washington, D.C., later moving to Boston to work at Mitre Corp. In 1961, Elaine met the love of her life, Ben Matheson, in San Francisco. Recognizing that she was destined to spend her life with Ben, she moved to Los Angeles, where he was working at the time. Elaine and Ben were married in Palos Verdes, Calif., on March 2, 1962, and there they began the adventure that would be their life together for the next 47 years. Shortly after their marriage, Elaine and Ben moved to Europe where they lived in Antwerp, Belgium, and London, England. During this period abroad, Elaine and Ben roamed the European continent, savoring the cultural and culinary delights of their favorite cities and enjoying vacations spent on the beaches of Italy and in the Alpine villages of Switzerland and Austria. During this period in Europe, Elaine began playing golf. From the day she first played the game, golf became an expression that would last for almost five decades. In 1968, Elaine and Ben moved to Fort Worth, Ben's hometown. She embraced the rich culture of her new hometown, enjoying everything from frequent visits to Joe T. Garcia's, to Cowboys games and plays at Casa Manana. But, what she enjoyed most about Fort Worth were the many friends she made during her 41 years in the city. Elaine and Ben were member s of Colonial and Shady Oaks country clubs where Elaine became an active participant in the women's golf associations of both, including serve as president of the Women's Golf Association at Colonial during the late 1980s. She found many of her best friends on the golf course and shared many wonderful days playing golf with them. But her favorite playing partner was Ben. She and Ben traveled extensively with many of their most memorable trips being to their favorite golf destinations. During times that she was not on a golf course, Elaine pursued an interest in cooking and entertaining and she was a gracious host and a wonderful cook. She served as a volunteer at All Saints Episcopal Hospital and was an avid reader with a wide range of interests. Elaine also found great joy in her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. And the joy she found was shared by those she loved and who loved her so much. Elaine was a special woman who lived a wonderful life. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Bobbie; and brother-in-law, Roger Reynolds. Survivors: In addition to her husband, Ben, Elaine is survived by her stepson, Dan Matheson and his wife, Jane, of Austin; her stepdaughter, Suzanne Petty and her husband, Dr. Paul Petty, of Rochester, Minn; grandchildren, Sarah Matheson Fink and her husband, Noah, Claire Matheson Reyes and her husband, Paul, Clayton Matheson of Austin, Kris Petty and his wife, Janice, Ben Petty and his wife, Jessie, Lauren Petty and Kate Petty; great-granddaughters, Kayla and Emilia Fink and Lily Reyes; brother-in-law, Don Matheson and his wife, Helen, of Fort Worth; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families; and a host of loving friends.3 She was buried at Greenwood Memorial Park, Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas.3 She was born on December 1, 1929 at Williamson, Mingo Co., West Virginia.3,6 As of March 2, 1962,her married name was Matheson.4 She married Benjamin Lee "Ben" Matheson on March 2, 1962 at Palos Verdes, Los Angeles Co., California.2,3,4 Mary Elaine Wilson died on April 4, 2009 at Texas at age 79.3,6
