He married Marjorie Kunes on October 15, 1948 at the United Methodist Church in Lock Haven. He was a 1939 graduate of Lock Haven High School. He completed a one-year course at Penn State in 1937 and received a certificate in aeronautics. He worked at the North American Refractories Brickyard in Lock Haven from 1937 to 1938. From 1939 to 1943, he supervised mechanics in experimental designing and production of Piper Cubs at the former Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven. He was a former US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, having served as a cadet from March 20, 1943 to January 26, 1945. He became a navigator and was assigned to a B-29 Bomber with the 870th Bomb Squadron, 497th Bomb Group. He received the American Campaign medal and the World War II Victory medal. He was a second lieutenant, serving from January 27, 1945 to August 31, 1946. He was promoted to first lieutenant with the US Air Force Reserve until his discharge on May 16, 1955. He then worked at the former Piper Aircraft as a supervisor and retired in June 1982 after 42 years of service. He was a Protestant. He was a life member of Lock Haven Elks Lodge 182, a life member of the Castanea Fire Company, a life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 100, a member of American Legion Post 130 and the Forty & Eight Voiture Locale 903, all of Lock Haven. He was survived by his wife, one daughter and a grandson. Graveside services were at the Rest Haven Memorial Park with the Reverend Russell I. Looker officiating. on March 7, 1997.3

Burleigh A. and Gertrude R. Leffler Peters. On January 15, 1956, she married Robert C. Kunes, who died January 13, 1980. She was a graduate of the former Lock Haven High School and earned her teaching degree from the former Lock Haven State Teachers College. She was a devoted elementary teacher and educator for more than 30 years with the Keystone Central School District. She touched lives too numerous to mention, as did her husband Robert. She was an active member of the former St. Johns Lutheran Church where her father served as pastor, which later became St. John's United Lutheran Church and is now the United Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Lock Haven State College Alumni Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, and the Pennsylvania State Retired Educators Association. She was also a member of the Rowin Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, card playing, bingo and had a special place in her heart for her pets. She is survived by three sons, William B. and his wife Mary of Blair, Neb., James Robert of Manhattan, NY, and David R. of Lock Haven; one brother, James B. Peters and his wife Peg of Kutztown; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mary Bianchi Kunes, Marjorie Poorman and Barbara Caraway; two cousins, Dr. David Leffler and Dr. Richard Leffler, and numerous nieces and nephews and devoted friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John D. Kunes. A memorial service will be held at the United Evangelical Lutheran Church, First and Church Streets, Lock Haven, on Thursday April 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. Private burial services will be at the convenience of the family in Rest Haven Memorial Park, Lock Haven. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clinton County SPCA or the United Evangelical Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Moriarty-Dutcavich Funeral Home, Lock Haven. on April 6, 2006.1
