She was born June 10, 1917, in Roanoke, the daughter of the late Frankie Campbell and Bernard Cook. She graduated from Jefferson High School, Randolph Macon Womans College, and received her Masters Degree in Classical Studies from Columbia University. Mrs. Aldridge taught for 43 years in Roanoke County Schools. She was head of the Latin Department of the former Andrew Lewis High School and at Salem High School, retiring in 1982. Mrs. Aldridge received many honors during her career. In 1976, she won the Ovatio, the highest merit award of the Classical Association of the Middle West and South. In 1978, she was presented the Virginia Distinguished Foreign Language Teacher Award. She will be remembered by former students for her inspired teaching and her sponsorship of May Day, Easter Pageants and club activities, especially the Junior Classical League. In 1989, a former student presented an anonymous $10,000 gift in the name of Annie Cook Aldridge to the Salem Educational Foundation for a scholarship. Mrs. Aldridge was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church and held leadership positions in many civic activities: Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma, General James Breckenridge Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Southern Cross Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, American Association of the University of Women, Salem Womens Club and the Salem Educational Foundation. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Randolph Aldridge and sister-in-law, Jean Cook. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and John Locke, Roanoke; two brothers and sister-in-law, Bernard C. Cook, Roanoke, William T. Priscilla Cook, Richmond; devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, Susan and Garland Bowman, Salem. Funeral services will be conducted from the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 1997, by the Rev. Jeff Dorsey and the Rev. Tom Clay. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Roanoke. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, June 27, 1997 from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Educational Foundation, 19 North College Avenue, Salem, Va. 24153. on June 27, 1997.2

Aldridge, and his wife Doris of Roanoke; daughter, Kay Woodard of Roanoke; three grandsons, William Scott Crowder, Jason E. Aldridge, and Bradley K. Aldridge. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to either the Alzheimer's Diease Association or the American Cancer Society. A graveside service for family only will be Tuesday, August 27, 2002 in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
