Collin Ringley. He was the husband of Gipsie Lee Ringley, who died Aug. 12, 2007. He was a veteran of the Army, having served during the Korean conflict. He received two Bronze Star Medals and a Purple Heart during his service time. He was retired from Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, where he had been a police officer. He also had worked in plumbing for several years. He enjoyed spending time at his cabin in the mountains, hunting and bluegrass music. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Carolyn Ringley, of Woodbine, and Ronnie and Veronica Ringley, of Sykesville; daughter and companion Lisa Puller and Val Cosh, of Sykesville; brother and sister-in-law Hubert and Violet Ringley, of Sykesville; and grandchildren Ryan and Kelly Ringley, Danny Duvall, Emma and Braden Puller, Patrick Jones, and Rebecca and Kyle Chasen. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park. on May 31, 2011.1

Ruby Jo was a 54-year resident of Mullens, a former secretary for the railroad with 37 years of service, retiring in 1988 from Norfolk Southern, and for 40-plus years she was a member of the Major League Bowling Association at Leisure Lanes in Beckley. She was also a graduate of Mullens High School and Bluefield Business College. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Mike DeWees. Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Ron “Tuffy” Gordon of Mullens; a grandson, Zachary Lee Gordon of Princeton and his fiancé, Samantha Nester; a sister-in-law, Betty DeWees of Mullens; a nephew, Bill Mike DeWeese and his wife, Vickie, of Mullens; and three great-nieces, Kayla, Ali and Bekah DeWeese of Mullens. Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel, Mullens, with the Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton. Friends may call one hour before service Friday at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. on March 12, 2008.2

Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. F. B. Yost of Keystone, John R. Ballard of Union; A. O. Ballard of Elmote, Mrs. W. B. Yost of Tazwell, Va; R. L. Collins, of St. Louis; Herbert H. Ballard of Portsmouth, Va; and Paul Ballard of Princeton. Funeral services will be tomorrow at 2 p.m. in the Kee street Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. O. E. Mercer and former pastor the Rev. L. D. Yost. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Shirley Lambert Irvin Conner of the home; his children, Vickie Haynes, Ted Ray Irvin Jr., Charles Conner, David Conner, Donna Slykerman, Rodney Conner and Nancy Miller; two sisters, Helen Hartley and Linda Collins; and one brother, Holly Conner. He was a member of the Appalachian Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church, Dublin, Va., and was a World War II veteran, having served as an anti-aircraft artillery personnel. He was an ordained minister in the Pentecostal Holiness Church. He joined the Virginia Conference, now known as the Appalachian Conference, in August 1959. He pastored churches in Virginia and West Virginia. He pastored in the Tazewell and Shenandoah areas of Virginia, and at Gary, Big Four and Caldwell in West Virginia. The Rev. Spence had lived in Lewisburg since 1990, having pastored and lived in Caldwell for 18 years. Survivors include his wife, Reba B. Spence; two daughters, Clinda Joy Brackman Weeks and her husband, Harold Lewis, of Covington, Va., and Sandra Defibaugh and her husband, William Everette, of Lewisburg; two sisters, Edna Taylor and Lorainne Crane, both of Ridgeway, Va; and three grandchildren, Stephen and Jonathan Brackman, and Elizabeth DeVito and her husband, Ray.      Her Social Security Number was 232-58-9918.3 Roberta June Linkous was buried at Rowan Memorial Park, 4126 U.S. Highway 601 N, Salisbury, Rowan Co., North Carolina.1,4 She was born on December 20, 1938 at Bluefield, Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,3,2,4 As of August 22, 1964,her married name was Smith.5 She married John Junior Smith, son of John Harvey "Coe" Smith and Pearl May "Pearly" Austin, on August 22, 1964 at Princeton, Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,5,4 Roberta June Linkous died on August 22, 2006 at Salisbury, Rowan Co., North Carolina, at age 67.1,3 She Mrs. Roberta Linkous Smith, 67, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation of Rowan County in Salisbury. Mrs. Smith was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late Robert Johnson and Martha Allena Blackwell Linkous. She graduated in 1957 from Princeton High School, Princeton. Mrs. Smith was employed in security for the Federal Government in Washington, D.C. then for the Clerk of Court in Princeton for eight years and later for the Rowan County Sheriff's Department for six years before retiring. Mrs. Smith was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Junior Smith on Jan. 29, 2002. Survivors include her brother, Elbert Jackson Linkous and his wife Geraldine of Wilmington, Del; nieces, Deborah Weyd of Newark, Del. and Rebecca Harris of Eagle River, Ark; sisters-in-law, Bondean Spence of Lewisburg and Laura Thorn of Mullins. Entombment will follow at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum. on August 23, 2006.1
