Graham; brother and sister-in-law, Curtis and Helen Graham of Dublin; sister and brother-in-law, Virginia Lou and Franklin M. Jones of Radford; sister-in-law, Frances H. Graham of Galax; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Emily Karen Graham and Anne Sowers Graham, sister, Mildred G. Dallas, and brothers, Cleo C. (Buddy) Graham, Hubert Graham, and Jimmy Graham. He served as Mayor of Pulaski from 1994 to 1997 and served on Pulaski Town Council for 24 years before that, including eight years as Vice-Mayor. He was known as "The Taxpayer's Man" since he believed in sound financial policies. A graduate of Buffalo Ridge Mission School, Patrick County, Virginia, in 1939, he entered Mars Hill Junior College in the Fall of 1939 and studied there until World War II began. He entered the U.S. Army Air Force in July, 1941 and received his commission as 2nd Lieutenant, Bombardier. He went overseas in 1942 with the 306 t h Heavy Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force, and was shot down over St. Nazaire, France on November 9, 1941 while bombing submarine pens. He spent 2 1/2 years in a German prison camp. Following World War II, he entered Virginia Tech and graduated in June 1948. He began working for Appalachian Power Company (American Electric) as an Agricultural Engineer and spent his entire professional career with the company, retiring in 1986 as Marketing and Customer Services Manager. A member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, he retired in 1981 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Ever enthusiastic about being a contributor to his community, he served over the years as a Boy Scout leader and in various projects to benefit youth, and chaired the Town Finance Committee, the Utilities Committee, and the Pulaski Railway Complex Task Force. A longtime active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, he has served in various leadership roles. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1184 and a past Exalted Ruler of the Pulaski Elks Club. He also enjoyed membership in the Thornspring Golf Club and the Pulaski Hensel Eckman YMCA. Funeral services for Andrew Lester Graham, Jr. will be held Friday, March 8 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pulaski, with Pastors Terrie Sternberg and Steve Ridenhour officiating. Burial with military graveside rites provided by Pulaski VFW Post #1184 will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery, Pulaski. The family will receive visitors Thursday, March 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be sent to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 378, Pulaski, Va. 24301. on March 7, 2002.2

     Alfred Curtis Graham was buried at Highland Memory Gardens, Rt. 11 between Dublin and Radford, Pulaski Co., Virginia.1 He was born on November 13, 1922 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1 He married Helen Smith circa 1951.1 Alfred Curtis Graham died on March 4, 2010 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 87.1 He Alfred Curtis Graham, 87, of Dublin, Va., died on Thursday evening, March 4, 2010, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on November 13, 1922, in Floyd County, Va., and was the son of the late Pearl Yates Graham and Andrew Lester Graham. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the United States Navy, was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Class of 1949, and was an avid Hokie fan for over 60 years. Curtis owned the Western Auto Store in Dublin during the mid 1960s and early 1970s. Curtis retired from Ruritan National with over 30 years of service, having served as Assistant Executive Secretary, and Acting Executive Director for a period of time. He was a charter member of the Ruritan Road Club, and served in all major club offices including the Dublin and Ruritan Road Clubs, and New River District Governor in 1965. He was also a 49 year member of the Henry Clay Masonic Lodge #280 A.F. & A.M. in Dublin; a member of the Kazim Temple in Roanoke; and a member of the Dublin Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was also a member of Toastmasters International, where he served in a variety of positions. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen Smith Graham, of Dublin; a daughter, Sandy Myers and her husband, Keith, of Roanoke; a son, Robbie Graham and his wife, Jaime, of Dublin; and a sister, Virginia Jones and her husband, Franklin, of Radford. He is also survived by two grandsons, Scott Myers and Gregory Myers. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Dublin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeanette Tagg officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens where the VFW Post #1184 will conduct Military Honors and Henry Clay Lodge #280 will conduct Masonic Graveside Rites. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the church from 4 until 8 p.m.

A native of Willis, Va., Elrica was a graduate of Roanoke College and later earned a master's degree Radford University. Following World War II, she met Andrew L. Graham Jr. and they were married in 1946. They were blessed with 55 years of marriage, four children, and four grandchildren. Elrica was preceded in death by two young daughters, Emily and Anne. Survivors include her daughter, Amy Brooks and husband, Donald, of Stuart, Fla; son, Mark and wife, Rena, of Roanoke; grandchildren and spouses, Amanda Brooks Cooper and Patrick of Roanoke, Aaron Brooks and Nicole of Charlottesville, Emily Graham Hadacek and Jonathan of Chicago, and Katelyn Graham Oliveira and David of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Colin, Carleigh and Claire Cooper, Jay and Stiles Hadacek, and Mack Oliveira; and a brother, Harry Sowers Jr. and wife, Patricia, of Midlothian. Elrica was a lifelong church and community leader, as well as, an award-winning Earth Science Teacher in the public-school system.
