He served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant and honor guard, was an advisor for four years with Junior Achievement, a Mason for 10 years, and also was an avid lover of antique cars and bicycles. Jim served as president, treasurer, and secretary at different times over 25 years for the Marion Slow Spokes Antique Car Club. A 40-year member of the A.A.C.A. National Antique Car Club of America, he attended and never missed The Hershey's Swap Meet and Car Show for 42 years. On Aug. 20, 1961, he married Leah Darlene (McGlothlin) Goad, she survives in Marion, Ohio. He is also survived by his mother, Wanda Goad of Florida; his sister, Joyce Souder of Palm Bay, Fla; four brothers-in-law, Manuel Cardenas, Cleon McGlothlin, Leo McGlothlin, and Ernie McGlothlin, all of Marion, Ohio; four sisters-in-law, Dolly Cardenas, Doyle McGlothlin, Alice McGlothlin, all of Marion, and Harriett McGlothlin of California; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Preceding him in death was his father, Guy O. Goad; a brother, Sidney Guy Goad; a daughter, Cindy Kay Goad; a mother and father-in-law, Lewis and Lledo McGlothlin; and a brother-in-law, Bill McGlothlin. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005, at the Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery. Calling hours will be held 4-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2005, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Rodger Vanover, Al Steiner, John Steiner, Joe Anthony, Todd Goddard, Al Dietrich, Bill Hunstman, Larry Eblin, and Fred Woerlein. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society. on September 18, 2005.2

She was born Aug. 18, 1920, in Clarksville, Va., a daughter of the late Benjamin Douglas and Louise Morton Goode. She was the widow of Col. Belfrad H. Gray Jr. Mrs. Gray moved to the Myrtle Beach area in 1975 from Columbia, after her husband's retirement from the Army. She was a member of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a daughter, Lynne G. Kline of Myrtle Beach; two sons, William Gray of Columbia and Hampton Gray of Charlotte, N.C; a sister, Rose Ordway of North Myrtle Beach; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. A private burial will be later in Florence National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grand Strand Humane Society, P.O. Box 629, Myrtle Beach 29578. McMillan-Small Funeral Home is in charge. on October 24, 1998.1
