     Joann "Joan" "Joanna" Elmore was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5250 Robert Centre Byrd Drive, Prosperity, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.5 She Joann (Joan) Helen Richmond age 99 of Blue Jay, WV passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at home. Born on May 17, 1922, in Riverside, WV, she was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and the last elder of Blue Jay United Methodist Church where she was a lifetime member. Mrs. Richmond was formerly employed by E.M. Payne Company, Glade Springs Racquet Club, and Beckley College. Joann was a fun-loving grandmother who loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed activities such as gardening, puzzles, yard sales (her favorite) and the goodwill store where she found many treasures. Also, she enjoyed spending time with her church and church family. She was known for her delicious butterscotch pies and chicken and dumplings.
Her daughter was her live-in caretaker for over seven years, who provided her with love and excellent care. Her son-in-law James also helped with anything she wanted or needed. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, William Elmore and Cora Bowe Elmer Barlow; husband of 52 years Harding Richmond; son Dennis "Danny" Richmond; grandson Dennis Richmond; sister Ida Mae Lilly; brothers James and Lee Elmore. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (James) Moran of Blue Jay; grandchildren, Tammy (Manuel) Ratliff of Blue Jay, Tina (Pat) Acord of Blue Jay; great grandchildren, Cindy (Adam) Redden of Daniels, Steven (April) Ratliff of Blue Jay, Kevin Acord of Blue Jay, Katie Acord of Charleston, and Kyle and Robert Richmond of North Carolina. Great-great grandchildren, Austin, Ava, Ellie, Josie, and Finley Ratliff of Blue Jay. A special niece, Lynda (John) Tilley of Roxboro, NC, and great nieces, Melissa (Perry) Vaughn and Susan (Russell) Pulliam of NC. Other nieces, Barbara Johnson of Kansas, Belinda Green and Debbie Elmore of NC; nephews, Mark Elmore of Chesapeake, VA, DeWayne, Bobby and Billy Jo Elmore of Beckley; great niece, Donna Mae of Pennsylvania. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Judy Mills for her love and care to our mom. Also, to the Home Health Nurses of Hospice of Southern WV for all your loving care and prayers. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. During his military career, he was awarded the World War II Victory Ribbon, World War II Campaign Ribbon, Occupation Ribbon, Navy Good Conduct Ribbon and Pacific Campaign Ribbon with three stars. While serving in Korea in 1950, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and the Korean Campaign Ribbon with five stars. Mr. Elmore was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of Crab Orchard the past six years. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Elmore. Survivors include his wife, Christine Calhoun Elmore; a son, Mark Elmore of Norfolk, Va; and two sisters, Ida Mae Lilly of Daniels and JoAnn Richmond of Blue Jay. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. on July 9, 2000.7

She was known as Ida Mae; she was also known for her sweet smile, loving kindness and her love for children. Ida Mae enjoyed helping those in need, baking cakes, sewing, and fishing. She was involved with the March of Dimes and the Special Olympics. She was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the Blue Jay Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, Ida Mae was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee Elmore and James Elmore; and a grandson, Martin Fronske. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Barbara Johnson of Overland Park, Kan., Lynda Tilley and husband, John, of Roxboro, N.C., and Victoria Fronske and husband, John, of Pocatello, Idaho; a son, George E. Lilly, Sr., of Beckley; a sister, Joanna Richmond of Blue Jay; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, with Rev. John Salvage officiating with burial to follow. Perry Vaughn, Russell Pulliam, John Tilley, George Lilly, Jr., John Fronske, and James Moran will be serving as pallbearers. Donations of sympathy may be made to the Special Olympics. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Lynda, Johnny, Melissa, and Susan for their caring during her illnesses over the past several years. Blue Ridge Funeral Home, 5251 Robert C. Survivors include her husband, Harding “Danny” Richmond at home; a son, Mark Elmore and wife, Cindy of Norfolk, Va; a brother, Mike Meadows and wife, Janice of Glen Morgan; her mother-in-law, Jo Ann Richmond of Blue Jay and a sister-in-law, Carolyn James of Blue Jay. on October 23, 2003.2
