He loved being at home. He was a long time member of the Fleet Reserve Association. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Robert L. Rice. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, S. Joanne Gentry Rice and his son Michael D. Rice and his stepchildren; Morgan, Stephen, Chasity, Shelby, John and Keith; two brothers, Elmer Rice Jr. (Marietta) of Sophia, WV and Larry Rice (Tina) of Oak Hill, WV. A sister-in-law Juanita Murphy, Sophia WV and many loving nieces and nephews. Inurnment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery will a graveside Service by the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 22 with full military honors. on April 9, 2016.2

Born Aug. 13, 1923 in Grapefield, Va., she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buress. She was formerly employed by Cumberland Care now Mercer Continuous Care of Bluefield. Mrs. Beckett was also a member of The Cumberland Road Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James Booth; her second husband, Howard Beckett Sr; a son, Jimmy R. Booth; a sister, Sarah Brooks; and a brother, Roy Buress. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include three sons, Howard Beckett Jr. and wife Dorothy of Bluefield, Danny R. Beckett and wife Kay of Florence, S.C., Jerry W. Beckett and wife Patty of Middlesboro, Ky; a daughter, Brenda L. DeVor and husband Jack of Bluefield; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; three special friends, Ellen Pauley, Marie Warf, and Polly White. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield with the Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Burial will follow from the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery located in Bluewell. Friends may call today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Hattie Marie Patrick was buried at Hilltop Cemetery, Hinton, Summers Co., West Virginia.2,3 She was born on April 13, 1907 at West Virginia.2 As of December 22, 1924,her married name was Light.1 She married Lundy Wather Light, son of Walter Marshall Light and Beulah Frances Lawrence, on December 22, 1924 at Summers Co., West Virginia.1,3 Hattie Marie Patrick died on September 25, 1925 at Hinton, Summers Co., West Virginia, at age 18.2 She Hattie Light, wife of Lundy Light, died at the Hinton Hospital at 10:40 o'clock, Friday morning, aged 18 years. She was taken to the hospital about four weeks ago in a very serious condition and an operation performed to relieve a condition due to her sex and seemed to improve for a time, but a slow form of gangrene set in, her physical powers gradually dwindling until death ensued at the time stated. Mrs. Light was a daughter of Mrs. Caroline Patrick, of this city, and besides her mother and husband is survived by five sisters - Misses May, Bessie, Goldie, Elizabeth and Mary and two brothers, Robert and Thomas, all of Hinton. She was married to Mr. Light, a son of W. M. Light, of this city, on the 22nd day of last December. The bereaved husband is linotype operator on the Hinton Daily News. Mrs. Light was a devout Christian and admired and respected by a wide circle of friends. Beautiful in character, form and face, she leaves a void in the affections of her loved ones, the home and among her friends that time cannot efface or all, and the sympathy of the public goes out to all who are so deeply touched by her passing. Burial followed in Hill Top cemetery. on October 1, 1925.3
