He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from San Diego State University, followed by graduate work at Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Wisconsin. While in Wisconsin, he met Shirley and they were soon married, in 1959. They moved to Baton Rouge as Charlie pursued and earned a doctoral degree in mathematics at Louisiana State University. All three children were born in Baton Rouge. The family later moved to Athens, Georgia where Charlie taught mathematics at the University of Georgia. After working as a professor for many years, an opportunity arose in Huntsville to work for the Computer Science Corporation and later Boeing. In 1983, he and four Boeing colleagues co-founded Simulation Technologies, Inc., a technology contractor, primarily contracting with the United States Army. He remained active in SimTech well past retirement, serving on its Board of Directors. Charlie lived life to the fullest. He was always up for a new adventure, whether it was hiking, rock climbing, mountaineering, running marathons, ultra-distance cycling, or even tuna fishing which he did as a young man in San Diego. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 21st from 6-9PM at the Lodge at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville, Alabama. Friends and family are encouraged to come in casual attire and share their favorite Charlie stories. on August 31, 2018.3
