Mrs. Begil was a lifelong resident of the area and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and homemaker. She was a member of the Cooks Chapel Baptist Church, Pipestem. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Williams; her second husband, Manuel Begil; and a son, Eddie Dean Williams. Survivors include two daughters, Greta O. Johnston of Athens and Mary Lee Lilly and her husband, Arnold, of Lewisburg, Tenn; two sisters, Eula Beckett and her husband, Earl, of Rich Creek, Va., and Juanita Maynard of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Deborah May and husband, William, Valerie Thompson and husband, Wayne, Steven Johnston, David Lilly and wife, Gisele, Mitchell Lilly and wife, Deborah, Kenneth Lilly and wife, Tina, and Elisabeth Choate and husband, Terry; 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Burial will follow in the Keaton Family Cemetery, Pipestem. Pallbearers will be William May, Wayne Thompson, Steven Johnston, Terry Choate, David Lilly, Mitchell Lilly, Kenneth Lilly and Brian May. on February 29, 2000.2

Beckett and her husband Earl of Rich Creek, Va; eight nieces; two brothers-in-law, Bill Hartman and Paul Greer; goddaughter and caregiver, Paula Hilling; and special friends and caregivers, Kathleen Bingham, Sandy Cox and Robin Bolton. Graveside services will be conducted at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Hilling, Jim Hilling, Jason Hilling, Gale Bolton, Bruce Blankenship and Greg Price. on December 8, 2009.3

She married Howard Eugene Johnston of Princeton in 1948. For many years, Greta was an active lady in the community, church, and various organizations. She was a member of Concord United Methodist Church and the Women's fellowship, Mercer County Farm Bureau Auxiliary, Mercer County Democratic Women's Club, Sun Valley Ruritan, and West Virginia Extension Homemakers Club. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Howard Eugene Johnston, who died in 1987, along with a brother Eddie Dean Williams and a son-in-law William H. May. Those left to cherish her memory include three children, Deborah May of Lerona, WV, Valerie Thompson and husband Marcus Wayne of Wendell, NC, Steven Johnston of Speedway, WV; three grandchildren, Brian May, Kelly Thompson Montgomery and Kevin Thompson; four great-grandchildren, Brittini Orcutt, Alexis May, Madison May and Mason Montgomery; three great-great-grandchildren, Brycen, Khloe, and Kruz Orcutt; and her sister Mary Lee Lilly of Lewisburg, TN; in addition, numerous nieces and nephews. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be David Lilly, Mitchell Lilly, Kenneth Lilly, John Keith Johnston, Kevin Thompson and Scott Padgett. on October 3, 2020.3

The 2nd daughter and child of Clarence and Viola Williams of Pipestem, West Virginia. A 1951 graduate of Hinton High School in Hinton, WV. On November 28th, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart Arnold Ray Lilly, also of Pipestem, WV. Mary Leigh and Arnold Ray would later move to Baltimore, MD where they would have 3 sons (all surviving Mary). David W. Lilly of Lewisburg, Tn; Mitchell K. Lilly (Debbie) of College Grove, Tn; and Kenneth R. Lilly (Leah) of Lewisburg, Tn. After several moves, in 1976 Arnold and Mary found themselves in Lewisburg, Tn. where they would live out their remaining years. Mary was the grandmother of 10; 7 natural and 3 step. Heather Lilly Conditt of Shelbyville, Tn; Jeremy Lilly of Bethlehem, Ga; Keith Lilly of Powder Springs, Ga; Matt Lilly of Murfreesboro, Tn; Amanda Lilly Honea of Social Circle, Ga; Jake Lilly of Spring Hill, Tn; Austin Lilly of Spring Hill, Tn; and 3 step grand-children T.C. Mary was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg. Mary passed from this earth on June 29th, 2021. She will be missed by all.      Arnold Ray Lilly On March 28, 2020, Arnold R. Lilly passed from this life to his heavenly home. Born July 16, 1932 in Pipestem, West Virginia. He was the 12th child of 13 born to Edward Allen Lilly and Lizzie Mae Lilly who both proceeded him in death. Surviving siblings are Charles Allen Lilly of Pipestem, West Virginia; and Drema Joy Marks who lives in Centerville, Md. Arnold was a 2-year letterman in both Football and Baseball for Hinton High School where he graduated in 1950. After practice, many times Arnold would have to hitch hike the 15 miles back home and complete his chores upon arrival. Arnold entered the United States Army after graduation where he served in the Korean War as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team from 1950-53. He was always proud of his service to our country. Upon returning home, Arnold was blessed by the marriage to his High School Sweetheart, Mary Leigh (Williams) Lilly, who survives him in death. They were married on Nov. 28, 1953. Arnold dearly loved Mary as they were together in marriage for over 66 years. Arnold was a special Father to and is survived by 3 sons: David Lilly of Covington, Ga; Mitch Lilly of Murfreesboro, TN; and Ken Lilly of Lewisburg, Tn. As well as 2 Daughters-in-law Debbie Lilly of Murfreesboro and Leah Lilly of Lewisburg. He also was graced by 7 Grandchildren: Heather Conditt, Jeremy Lilly, Keith Lilly, Matt Lilly, Amanda Honea, Jake Lilly, and Austin Lilly. Also 3 Step Grandchildren: T.C. Hedge, Thomas Hedge, and Mary Cate Costa. As well as being survived by 12 Great Grandchildren. Arnold moved to Lewisburg, Tn. In 1976 where he proudly served as the Plant Manager and later General Manager of Mead Containerboard. He dearly loved the people he worked with and retired from Mead in 2000. He was a devout Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Lewisburg. Arnold was highly involved in the Lewisburg community, serving as a City Councilman for 12 years, Babe Ruth League President, Marshall County Quarterback Club President, Lewisburg Gas Board Member, Board of Directors for Tennessee Technical Coatings, as well as being named 2001 Marshall County Senior Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Arnold was also a proud member of McDonald’s “Old Geezers” club. He loved his mornings at McDonalds. Loved immensely by his Family, Arnold always loved seeing familiar faces and greeted them with a warm smile and an open hand. He will be missed by all. Born August 6, 1941 at Princeton, she was the daughter of the late Clownie E. and Onie Mae Pettrey Conner. She was educated in Athens, was a life long resident of Mercer County, enjoyed gardening and shared her love of the earth with flowers. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Mount Jackson Regular Baptist Church in Athens. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ross Conner. She was a former employee of Concord College in Athens, working in the Student Union area. Survivors: two daughters, Tammy Shorter and her husband, Randy, and Rhonda Riffe, all of Speedway; four brothers, Virgil Conner and his wife, Peggy, and Coy Conner and his wife, Kathleen, all of Elgood, and Troy and Forest Emory Conner, both of Athens; and six grandchildren, Travis, Amanda, Andrea and Justin Shorter and Brandy and Jimmie Lee Riffe. Burial will follow in the Bowles Family Cemetery in Speedway. Pallbearers will be: Donald Simpkins, Cecil Harvey, Benny Oxley, Steve Harmon, Okie Calvert and Mark Phillips. on August 25, 1996.8

     Jimmie Dale Bowles and Rissie Louise Conner were divorced.3 Jimmie Dale Bowles was born on October 5, 1938 at Speedway, Mercer Co., West Virginia.2,3 He married Rissie Louise Conner, daughter of Clownie Elmer Conner and Ona Mae "Onie" Pettry, on November 10, 1958 at Elgood, Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,2 Jimmie Dale Bowles died on February 16, 2020 at West Virginia at age 81.3 He Green Valley - The angels came on February 16th., and carried Jimmie Dale Bowles, 81, to be with his Savior and Lord. Jimmie was born to the late Otto and Blanche Caldwell Bowles of Speedway on October 5, 1938. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles (Jiggs) Bowles, sister, Judy Wiley and a granddaughter, Brandy Riffe. Jimmie was well known as a self-employed building contractor, building churches, offices and residential homes. He served his country in the U.S. Marines. Jimmie was a member of Liberty Baptist Church at Glenwood. When Jimmie's health permitted, he served other churches as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, youth leader and lay speaker. Jimmie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Mary (Bettie) Bowles of Green Valley; Two daughters, Rhonda Riffe of Bluefield, Tammy (Randy) Shorter of Speedway; Grandchildren, Travis Shorter, Amanda Roberts, Andrea Lee, Justin Shorter and Jimmie Lee Riffe; Five great-grandchildren; Step-son, Bill (Deb) Stowers of Roanoke, VA; Very special niece, Teresa Wiley of Pearisburg, VA; Three nephews; Sisters-in-law, Kay White of Bluewell, Barbara Mitchem of Princeton, Nadine Bowles of Speedway; Brother-in-law, Douglas Duncan of FL. To honor Jimmie's request, his body has been donated to the WV School of Osteopathic School of Medicine for Parkinson research which Jimmie had suffered since 2002. on February 19, 2020.3

Troy loved helping people and loved his dog Molly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Jean Conner; brothers, Emory, Coy and Ross Conner along with his sister, Louise Bowles. Survivors include his devoted daughter and son in law, Sharon R. and Darrel Lilly of Athens; four grandchildren, Steven and Sherry Lilly, Mark and Marlene Lilly, Felicia and Billy Ennis, Angelica Lilly; four great grandchildren, Elliot, Tori, Julianne and Cheyenne; one brother, Virgil Conner of Elgood. Graveside services will be held from the Athens Cemetery in Athens. on November 24, 2006.2
