He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Toney and Anna Broyles. Survivors include his wife, Lula Coleman Thompson; a daughter, Loretta Lafferty and her husband, Richard, of Beckley; a grandchild, Velinda Newman of Oak Hill; two great-grandchildren, Linzie Newman and Stacie Jeffries, both of Oak Hill; and two sisters, Jean Roland and her husband, Clyde, of Waynesboro, Va., and Robin Campbell of Brooksville, Fla. Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Bradley Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Legg officiating. Burial will follow in High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Deacons of the church will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Hope. Virginia is survived by a son, Ralph Franklin Griffith of Birmingham, Ala; daughter and son-in-law, Rosalie and Paul Hastings of Marmet; sister, Bea Clark of Chesapeake; brother, Gene Coleman and wife, Dilys of Whidbey Island, Wash; brother, Tom Coleman and wife, Kay Coleman of LaPorte, Texas; grandchildren, David Hastings and wife, Patricia of Marmet, Mary Cochran of Marmet and Leslie Nichols and husband, Nick of Marmet; great-grandchildren, Eddie, Josh, and Whitney Cochran of Marmet and father, Eddie Cochran of Marmet and stepfather, Paul Wriston of Hughes Creek, Michael Hastings and mother Becky of St. Albans, Lydia Hastings and mother, Rose of Quitman, Miss., and Christian and Jordan Nichols of Marmet. Virginia is also survived by her friend and caregiver, Sue Chappell of Marmet; sister-in-law, Evelyn Coleman of Quarry Manor in Charleston; friend, Dink Johnson of Nitro; and friend, Ruth Powell of Marmet. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. prior to the service. The Rev. Dennis Vance will be officiating and burial will be at Marmet Cemetery. on May 17, 2003.3
