BARTS, 62, R.R. 3, Rochester, died at 1:30 o'clock this morning at Woodlawn hospital where he had been a patient one day. He had been in failing health the past six years with a coronary ailment. Mr. Barts had operated the Rochester Fertilizer and Feed company north of the city on U.S. 31 for 41 years. In recent years his son, Joe [BARTS], has operated the business. Mr. Barts was born July 20, 1898, near Plymouth, to Joseph and Ella MANUAL BARTS. He had lived here for 41 years, coming from Plymouth. He was married Nov. 8, 1918, at Plymouth, to Maude STULL, who survives. Mr. Barts was a member of the Grace Methodist church and the Rochester I.O.O.F. lodge No. 47. Surviving, along with the widow, are two daughters, Mrs. James (June) VRANA, R.R. 1, Rochester; and Mrs. Tom (Alice) SROUFE, R.R. 1, Macy; one son, Joe BARTS, R.R. 5, Rochester; six grandchildren; two brothers, Ralph [BARTS], R.R. 2, Rochester, and Paul [BARTS], Frankfort; and several nieces and nephews. One son, Keith [BARTS], preceded him in death in 1959. One sister, one brother and both parents also precded in death. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Grace Methodist church with the Rev. Ray MILLS officiating. Burial will be in the Rochester I.O.O.F. cemetery. Friends may call at the Foster & Good funeral home here after 9 a.m. Wednesday and until noon Thursday and at the church from 1 p.m.until 2 p.m. Thursday. on December 13, 1960.4 He died on December 13, 1960 at Rochester Township, Fulton Co., Indiana, at age 62.3,4,5

A member of the Bremen Church of the Brethren, she loved to shop and to cook and was famous for her delicious pies and deserts and potato salad. Always working, she took care of numerous disabled and elderly couples, cooking and cleaning in their homes. She was a devoted animal lover. Garneta is survived by two daughters and two sons. Her daughters are Karen and Gene Curless, New Haven, Ind; Joyce and Robert Breeden, Utica, Ill. Her sons are Gregory and Joetta Balsley, Plymouth, and Brian Balsley, Boulder, Wyo. Six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren also survive, as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving Garneta are two sister-in-laws, Alice Shaffer, Plymouth and Dorothy Stull of Bourbon. Garneta was preceded in death by both of her husbands; two brothers, Dean and Galen Stull; an infant brother, Wayne; and two sisters, Jeanette and Martha Clingenpeel. Visitation and the sharing of memories with her family will be Saturday, April 2, 2011, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind. The funeral services for Garneta will be held following visitation at 2 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, Ind. Memorials to Garneta's name may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society, P. O. Box #22, Plymouth, Ind. on March 31, 2011.4

Dwight Burch, 90, a lifetime Walkerton resident, died of natural causes at his residence at 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2008. Dwight was born at home in the Walkerton/Tyner area on October 21, 1918, the son of Chester H. and Blanche V. (Stull) Burch. He graduated from Tyner High School with the class of 1936. On the 21st of October, 1939, in the parsonage of the United Brethren Church in Tyner, Dwight and Pauline E. Baker were married. A lifetime farmer, he was a popular and dependable school bus driver for 46 years for the Tyner and John Glenn school districts. He enjoyed cutting wood, gardening and butchering-always sharing his bounty with others. A lifelong member of the Blissville Church of the Brethren, he was an Indiana Farm Bureau member for over 52 years. Dwight is survived by Pauline, his devoted spouse and by their two sons and families. They are DuWayne P. (Becky) Burch, N. Liberty, IN., and Dennis L. (Linda) Burch, Mentone, IN. His grandchildren, who also survive are: Todd (Karen) Burch, Walkerton, and their children, Nathan and Eric: Tracey (Tom) Duff, Walkerton, and children, Tyler and Trevor: Dawn (Shawn) Campbell, Bremen, and children, Abby and Zach: Deanna (Scott) Greene, Niagara Falls, N.Y., Aaron, Isaac and Deborah Burch, Fort Wayne, IN. Several nieces and nephews survive as well. Dwight was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lloyd Burch. Friends may visit with the family and remember the life of Dwight Burch on Monday, December 1, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth,IN, and one hour before services in the church. Funeral services for Dwight will be at 10:30 a.m. On Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at the Blissville Church of the Brethren, 6250 Spruce Trail, Plymouth. The Rev. Dester Cummins, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Tyner Cemetery. Memorial gifts in Dwight's memory may be made to the Blissville Church or to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 112 S. Center St., Plymouth, IN 46563. on November 30, 2008.3

Mr. Barts, who resided at 702 Fulton avenue, had been in ill health about four weeks. Born in Plymouth on Oct. 21, 1921, he was the son of Howard and Maud STULL BARTS. A graduate of Rochester high school and Manchester college, he had recently returned to this city to join the family's firm, Rochester Fertilizer and Feed company. A band director by profession before returning to this city, he had attended the Cincinnati conservatory of music and had been employed by schools at Laurel, Del., and Prestonburg and Pikesville, Ky. He was married Dec. 24, 1946, to Vada REFFETT, who survives. She is a teacher at Riddle elementary school. Mr. Barts was a member of the Grace Methodist church and Rochester Lions club and was a veteran of World War II. Surviving besides his wife are one son, Charles Keith [BARTS], two years of age; his parents, Rochester; one brother, Joseph [BARTS], Rochester; two sisters, Mrs. June VRANA, Rochester, and Mrs. Alice SROUFE, Macy; one niece and four nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Grace Methodist church, with Dr. Claude YOUNG officiating, assistd by the Rev. James REFFETT and the American Legion. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery here. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today. on March 23, 1959.4

Vrana, 88, passed away at 3:27 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne. For the past two years, Mrs. Vrana made her home at the Cameron Woods Assisted Living Facility in Angola to be near her son. On Nov. 21, 1924, June L. Barts was born in Rochester to Howard C. and Maude (Stull) Barts. Growing up, she shared her childhood with a sister, Alice, and two brothers, Joe and Keith. In May of 1943, with great pride, June graduated with her class from Rochester High School. She continued her education at the South Bend College of Commerce, studying bookkeeping and accounting. In Rochester, on May 22, 1954, June and James Vrana were married. Their union of 46 years produced twins, Jack and Jill. Over the years, the added blessings of four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren completed the family tree. Residing in Rochester for all of her life, with the exception of the past two years, June retired as an accountant for Patty Middleton. She was a loyal member of the St. John Lutheran Church for over seven decades, serving the church as treasurer for 24 years. From her position as alto, she sang with the Notables. An accomplished kegler, June let the good times roll at Quick's Lanes. She also competed in many state bowling tournaments. She thoughtfully knitted gifts of warmth for her grandchildren and special friends. June was best known for her ability to make the best crisp and crunchy peanut brittle at the holidays. Only she knows how many pounds of peanuts she used to create this annual delectable treat which was always in high demand. June is lovingly remembered by a daughter, Jill Ervin and husband Paul, of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Jack Vrana and wife Kathy, of Angola; four grandchildren, Lauren Vrana Lape and husband Mark, Elliot Vrana and wife Stephanie, and Noah Ervin and Elijah Ervin; two great-grandchildren, Macie Lape and Brysen Lape; sister, Alice Sroufe and husband Tom, of Macy; a sister-in-law, Susie Barts, of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding June in death are her parents; beloved husband, James, on June 6, 2000; an infant grandson, Collin Vrana; and two brothers, Keith Barts and Joseph Barts. A celebration of the life of Mrs. June L. Vrana will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, in the St. John Lutheran Church, Rochester, with Rev. Mel Meyer officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013, in the Good Family Funeral Home, Rochester, and one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment will be in the Rochester IOOF Cemetery. on September 18, 2013.7

Butler II of Hilltop, together they raised four children: William Poff and wife Connie of Weslaco TX, Zella Annette Barie, Pauline "Polly" Hartman and Freda Hess Butler all deceased. She was the 5th born of the sisters, all who preceded her in death: Hazel Mathena, Naomi Snyder, Annie Hubbard, Josie Hazelwood and Mae Bryant. Virginia had 12 grandchildren, 2 deceased, 5 step grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. And a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, October 1, 2013 from the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with Pastor C.T. Lilly officiating. Burial will follow in the Athens Cemetery in Athens. on September 29, 2013.4

She also resided in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., and in Athens in later years. She was a member of the Bluefield Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ellsworth Bryant in 1976 and her second husband, Bernard Large in 1991 and by a brother and several sisters. Survivors include: a daughter, Mrs. William (Hallie Jean) Dickerson of Dickinson, Texas; three sons, Kermit E. Bryant and his wife, Marie of York, S.C., James Patrick Bryant of Athens and Howard Ray Bryant and his wife, Martha of Bradley; a stepson, Dewey Large and his wife, Irene of Oak Ridge, Tenn; stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert (Edith) Hale of Pigeon Forge; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and one sister, Virginia Butler of Athens. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, October 14, 1996, in the Melton Mortuary Chapel in Beckley with Bishop George Graham and Bishop Earl Shrewsbury officiating. Burial will follow in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. on October 12, 1996.4

A native of Mercer County, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late John and Vera Bruce and the widow of DeForrest Lilly. Mrs. Lilly was a member of Baylake United Methodist Church and was a dedicated member of the United Methodist Women and a past president of the organization. She was a member of Bayside Chapter No. 181, Order of the Eastern Star and past matron of Mullens Chapter No. 100 of Mullens, W.Va. She was an active member of the Ocean Park Woman's Club, having served in many capacities. Mrs. Lilly was also a member of Lynnhaven Colony Garden Club. Her favorite past time was playing mah-jongg with her friends and cooking. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara L. Howard of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, Robert B. Lindquist of Virginia Beach and Michael S. Lindquist of Morehead City, N.C; a sister, Wanda B. Akers of Chester, Va; and a host of nieces and nephews. A funeral with an Eastern Star Service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, with the Rev. Ted David and the Rev. Deborah Clark officiating. The entombment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 4 to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Baylake United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. on November 14, 2010.3

Julia served the church as a deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, various committee chairs, WMU, and she represented the church at local meetings for the Virginia Baptist Association. She enjoyed bus trips, sewing and crafts. Julia was active serving the Rescue Mission and the RAM house. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Donna P. "Patty" King and Winfred T. "Tommy" Anderson; seven siblings; and her granddaughter, Angela Kay Anderson. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter-in-law, Judy P. Anderson; three sons, Donald Malcolm Jennings (Brenda), Richard Nelson Jennings (Valerie), and Gregory Stuart Jennings (Angie); daughter, Glenna Beth Jennings; four grandsons, Donald Wayne Jennings, John Thomas Cook (Olivia), Jason Jennings (Lindsey), and Anthony Jennings; seven granddaughters, Danielle Hale (Chris), Jennifer Bennett (Dean Hodges), Tracy A. Wray (Doug), Amy Williams (Steve), Kelly Jennings, Stephanie Jennings (Brian), and Michelle Marshall (Tonk); 20 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. on November 2, 2022.3
