She had a business degree in Administration and had previously worked for Fayetteville Water Company and eight years for Fayetteville Federal Savings and Loans. She loved going to church, reading, bird and squirrel watching, and watching television. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Clinebell in 1981; sister, Velma Payne; and brothers, Chauncey Dodd and Charles E. Dodd. Hope Presbyterian Church, the Fayette Branch of the A.A.U.W. and county, state and national Retired Teacher Associations. She was a charter member of Omega Chapter, Alpha Phi State and Delta Kappa Gamma International Teachers Society, the Mt. Junior Woman's Club and the Mount Hope Federated League. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Eugene Scott Carter; two sisters, Eleanor Doss and Ruth Nickell; two brothers, Bowman Doss and Armon Doss. Survivors include two sons, Charles Hammett Carter and Richard D. Carter (wife Louise); daughter, Fran Carter Birdsong (husband Jerry); four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was very active in Beckley Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of Circle No. 1, Women's Bible Class and Ambassador's Class. She was a supporter of WSWP-TV and the Youth Museum. She was a member of Flowering Hills Garden Club, Beckley Women's Club, Christian Woman's Club and West Virginia Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd B. Nickell; two brothers, Bowman Doss and Armon Doss; and a sister, Elinore Doss. Survivors include a son, Stephen B. Nickell and his wife, DeLane, of Beckley; a sister, Alma Carter of Mount Hope; three grandchildren, David A. Smith of Arlington, Va., Rebecca D. Smith of Beckley, and Kevin D.
